‘Manhunt’: Upcoming Apple TV+ Series Adds Several New Cast Members

The upcoming Apple TV+ limited series about the hunt for presidential assassin John Wilkes Booth, Manhunt, has added several new cast members.

Brandon Flynn, Betty Gabriel, Damian O’Hare, Hamish Linklater, Lili Taylor, Patton Oswalt, and Will Harrison have joined the cast. The seven join previously announced cast members Tobias Menzies, Anthony Boyle, Lovie Simone, and Matt Walsh. The current cast list and their respective characters follow:

  • Tobias Menzies as Edwin Stanton — Abraham Lincoln’s War Secretary and friend who became obsessed with catching the president’s assassin and continuing his legacy.
  • Anthony Boyle as John Wilkes Booth
  • Love Simone as Mary Simms — A former slave of the doctor who treated Booth’s injury and provided him safe harbor after the assassination.
  • Matt Walsh as Dr. Samuel Mudd — The doctor who treated and harbored Booth after the assassination.
  • Brandon Flynn as Eddie Stanton Jr. — A war department clerk and the son of Edwin Stanton.
  • Betty Gabriel as Elizabeth “Lizzie” Keckley — A famous fashion designer and close friend to Mary Lincoln.
  • Damien O’Hare as Thomas Eckert — Stanton’s righthand man and telegraph expert.
  • Hamish Linklater as Abraham Lincoln — The 16 president of the United States.
  • Lili Taylor as Mary Lincoln — The wife of Abraham Lincoln.
  • Patton Oswalt as Detective Lafayette Baker — A war department investigator.
  • Will Harrison as David Herold — John Wilkes Booth’s accomplice.

Manhunt is a true-crime limited series based on the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the aftermath that followed the loss of the president, and is directly based on the book Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer by James Swanson. Monica Beletsky serves as writer, executive producer, and show-runner on Manhunt. Carl Franklin directs and executive produces. Layne Eskridge of POV Entertainment also executive produces along with Michael Rotenberg and Richard Abate for 3 Arts and Frank Smith and Naia Cucukov for Walden Media. The series is co-headed by Apple and Lionsgate Television.
