After exploring the DC universe besides The Flash on The CW, Jesse L. Martin has his eyes on something new. Martin has landed the starring role in NBC’s new drama pilot, The Irrational.

Martin will be playing the role of Alec Baker, a professor. Alec Baker is a unique type of professor that has his own way of seeing human nature. This series is based on Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely. It will center around Martin’s professor, known for his expertise in behavioral science. This specific skill set comes in handy while helping law enforcement on several high-risk cases. Professor Baker might just meet his equal when faced with a female suspect that flips everything he knows on its head.

Fans of The Flash may be wondering what this new show means for the fate of Joe West. Martin has played the beloved character for eight seasons and will be appearing in the ninth season. His role as Joe will be more minor, and Martin will not be listed as a series regular, according to Deadline.

The Irrational will be headed to NBC with Arika Mittman writing alongside executive producers Mark Goffman and Sam Baum. Author of Predictably Irrational Dan Ariely will be working on the show as a consultant. Make sure to follow Nerds & Beyond to stay up to date.
