Amazon’s ‘Fallout’ Adaptation Casts ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Actress Ella Purnell

After mastering the survival genre on Yellowjackets, Ella Purnell (Star Trek: Prodigy, Army of the Dead) is once again tackling an extreme situation in her latest role on Amazon’s Fallout series.

She will join Walter Goggins (Antman and the Wasp) who was announced as the show’s lead ghoul back in February.

The Fallout game franchise is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where America has been nearly destroyed by global nuclear war. The horrific results included plagues that created the ghouls, advanced zombie-like creatures that Goggin’s character will likely be leading. Particulars of Purnell’s role have not been announced, but it sounds likely that she could be playing a Vault Dweller, the name given to people who survived the fallout by sheltering in huge bunkers. Sources described her character to Variety as “upbeat and uncannily direct with an all-American can-do spirit. But an intensity in her eyes says she might just be a tiny bit dangerous.”

Fallout is scheduled to begin production at Amazon Studios later this year. Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner are executive producers and co-showrunners. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy will also executive produce via Kilter Films, and Nolan is also set to direct the first episode of the series. Athena Wickham, another Kilter Films name, will also executive produce along with Todd Howard for Bethesda Game Studios and James Altman for Bethesda Softworks.
