New and returning cast members have been announced for DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. A first look photo has also been released for the long awaited sequel to the Shrek spin-off.

The movie will follow Puss as he realizes that his life of adventure has caused him to lose eight of his nine lives. He must “journey into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star” to regain his lost lives. He will have to turn to help from his partner and nemesis, Kitty Soft Paws. Alongside the return of Antonio Banderas as Puss, Salma Hayek (Eternals) will be returning as Kitty Soft Paws.

The two will also be joined by a new ally, “a ratty, chatty, relentlessly cheerful mutt, Perro”. Perro can be seen in the first look photo alongside the pair. He will be voiced by Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows.)

Along the way, the trio will encounter many other characters who try to get in their way. Florence Pugh (Black Widow) will voice Goldilocks, John Mulaney (Big Mouth) will voice “Big” Jack Horner and Wagner Moura (Narcos) will voice The Big Bad Wolf.

The star-studded cast will also feature Olivia Colman (The Crown), Ray Winstone (Black Widow), Samson Kayo (Sliced), Anthony Mendez (Jane the Virgin) and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Trolls World Tour).

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish will be released in theaters September 23. We can’t wait to check it out!
