In an announcement fans weren’t expecting, Grishaverse author Leigh Bardugo announced a new graphic novel, Demon In The Wood! Today, on her Instagram and on Good Morning America, she shared the cover and release date with her followers.
For those that aren’t aware, Bardugo is the author of several series, including the Shadow and Bone trilogy, Six of Crows books, King of Crows books, and several others. These books have been affectionately named the Grishaverse. After the success of these series, it’s hard to believe that this new release will be the first graphic novel.
Demon In The Wood is a prequel to the world we know in Shadow and Bone. The graphic novel will focus on the Darkling, or as some may know him, General Kirigan. However, this book will have readers meeting the Darkling long before he took up the name of Kirigan. Demon In The Wood will begin hundreds of years before the events of Shadow and Bone, back when the famous Darkling was just a young man. This young Darkling finds himself gifted with extraordinary powers and faced with the choice of what to do with them.
The gorgeous cover art of Demon In The Wood is a result of Bardugo partnering with artist Dani Pendergast to give this brand new story a vivid life. Grishaverse fans will be happy to know that the wait for this graphic novel isn’t terribly long; Demon In The Wood will hit shelves on September 27, 2022.
The pre-order link for Demon In The Wood is live now and can be found here. If you are curious about the Grishaverse and want to know more, check out any or all of the books listed earlier in the article. If you aren’t much of a reader, then watching season one of Shadow and Bone on Netflix might be a better fit for you. Ben Barnes does an excellent job of bringing the character of the Darkling to life. These stories have created such a rich world filled with beautifully written characters, and fans can’t wait to learn more. Make sure to follow Nerds & Beyond to stay up to date!
