Scarlett Johansson has found her next project — Wes Anderson’s newest film.
The Oscar-nominated actress will star in the next untitled project from the renowned filmmaker. She joins previously announced Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, and Bill Murray, all veterans of previous Anderson projects. Fellow newcomers also include Margot Robbie and Tom Hanks.
This isn’t the first project for Johansson and Anderson; Johansson previously voiced Nutmeg in Anderson’s stop-motion project Isle of Dogs. This will be her first foray into the live-action world under Anderson’s direction, however.
Johansson is coming off of her decade-long tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. Previously, Disney announced she would produce and star for a live-action film based on the popular Disney Park ride, Tower of Terror. However, the project is rumored to be called off after Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney for breach of contract over the Black Widow hybrid release. You can hear her next in Sing 2, where she voices the porcupine Ash, set to release on December 22.
Wes Anderson’s newest film, The French Dispatch, has begun showing at film festivals around the globe. So far, its reviews are resoundingly positive, making it a contender in this year’s award season. It will release on October 22.
