A new doctor is scrubbing into St. Bonaventure for season 5 of The Good Doctor! Osvaldo Benavides will be joining the ABC medical drama for its upcoming season, following the season 4 finale.

Via an exclusive from Deadline, Benavides, who portrays Dr. Mateo Rendón Osma, will be joining The Good Doctor for the fifth season. Dr. Osma was introduced in the two-part season 4 finale when the team from St. Bonaventure came to Guatemala to assist with a surgical mission. Osma has spent many years working in the country for a Doctors-Without-Borders-type organization. In the first part last week, he was already getting close to Christina Chang’s Dr. Audrey Lim, and the duo even helped a woman deliver a baby, even if it was nearly against their will.

Benavides joins Noah Glavin (Asher Wolke) and Bria Samoné Henderson (Jordan Allen), who were also promoted from recurring to series regulars for Season 5. The news of Benavides’ promotion comes just after it was announced that Antonia Thomas will be departing the series following tonight’s season 4 finale after portraying Dr. Claire Browne since the show’s beginning.
