Jamie Lynn Spears, Brandon Quinn, and Dion Johnstone have officially been promoted to series regulars on Sweet Magnolias! Filming on season 2 of the series has been underway for a number of weeks in Georgia. Deadline was first to report the news.
Season 1 of the series followed Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), a freshly divorced mother of three kids that, with the power of friendship from her two best friends, Helen Decatur (Heather Headley) and Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliott), is able to reignite the strength and power within herself to juggle relationships, family, and her career in the southern town of Serenity.
Spears plays Bill Townsend’s (Chris Klein) former mistress Noreen who ends up getting pregnant. At first, everyone is very unsure of her presence, but by the end of season 1, she had acted as a mentor figure to Bill’s son Kyle. At the end of the season, Noreen had decided that being with Bill wasn’t what was best for her like she thought it was, and she dumped him.
Johnstone plays Erik Whitley who works as a sous chef at Dana Sue’s restaurant in the heart of Serenity. Erik is a pivotal character in the series and often a voice of reason. Towards the middle of the season, it was revealed that his prodigy Isaac was having sneaking suspicions about whether or not Erik was his father.
Lastly, Ronnie (Quinn), Dana Sue’s ex-husband and father to Annie (Anneliese Judge), made his presence known in the finale. Dana Sue had fallen under hardships at the restaurant, and the only solution was for her to take out a small business loan. This forced her to face her past and call in Ronnie, and his arrival only further complicated their situations.
Stay tuned for more on Sweet Magnolias season 2!
