Michaela Coel Earns MTV Movie & TV Awards Nomination for ‘I May Destroy You’

The nominations for the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards are here! The awards ceremony recognizes some of the best films and television programs from the past year. This year’s ceremony will also be followed by the inaugural Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted geared towards reality TV.

Among this year’s nominees is Michaela Coel, the creator, writer, director, and star of HBO’s I May Destroy You. Coel was nominated for Best Performance in a Show.

I May Destroy You follows Arabella, a writer struggling to work on her next book after realizing she may have been raped. Through the series, Arabella tries to piece together what happened to her. The show explores consent, the new and evolving landscape of dating and relationships, and finding the line between liberation and exploitation. It is streaming now on HBO Max.
