‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ Earns Two MTV Movie & TV Awards Nominations, Including Best Movie
The nominations for the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards are here! The awards ceremony recognizes some of the best films and television programs from the past year. This year’s ceremony will also be followed by the inaugural Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted geared towards reality TV.
Bringing home two nominations for film is Judas and the Black Messiah. The film itself received a nomination for Best Movie. Daniel Kaluuya received a nomination for Best Performance in a Movie for his stunning portayal of Fred Hampton.
Judas and the Black Messiah focuses on Black Panther Party Chairman (Illinois) Fred Hampton, who leads his chapter of the Panthers towards social justice and empowerment for Black people. However, he must soon face a betrayal within the Panthers when Bill O’Neal is sent to infiltrate the group by the FBI.
So far this awards season, Kaluuya has been sweeping the competition, earning wins from the Golden Globe, SAG, the BAFTAs, and Critics Choice. He and the film are also nominated for multiple Academy Awards.
The MTV Movie & TV Awards will take place on Sunday, May 16. Fan voting is open now through April 30. Find the full list of nominees here.
