‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ Announces Lucy Liu as New Villain

After announcing Helen Mirren as the villain Hespera last month, Shazam! Fury of the Gods has added Lucy Liu as Hespera’s sister and co-villain Kalypso.

The film is set to continue the story of Billy Batson, a teenage boy who transforms into his superhero alter ego Shazam anytime he says “Shazam!” Asher Angel will return as Billy, with Zachary Levi playing his super hero alter ego. The sequel will also see director David F. Sandberg returning to bring life to Henry Gayden’s screenplay based on the DC comic character created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck. So the Elementary and Why Women Kill star is joining not only Mirren, but this core team from 2019’s Shazam!.

Both Liu and Mirren will be playing daughters of the Greek god Atlas who has multiple potential counterparts in DC Comics, but there are few details available yet about exactly the role the two villainesses will play as neither of them has an obvious DC Comics counterpart. That being said, there is no doubt that Liu and Mirren will prove to be a wonderful team to watch, no matter what trouble they will be causing onscreen.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled to open on June 2, 2023.
