Paul Dektor’s upcoming dark comedy American Dreamer has added four new cast members! Danny Glover, Danny Pudi, Matt Dillon, and Michelle Mylett join the previously announced Kim Quinn, Peter Dinklage, and Shirley MacLaine. Deadline was first to report the news.
The film is based on a true story from the This American Life podcast. The podcast picks a new theme each week and puts stories together based on the theme. The film will see Dinklage take on the role of Phil Loger, an economics professor who has a dream of owning a home, but that seems unattainable for him. A once in a lifetime opportunity manifests itself to him when a near-death widow, played by MacLaine, offers him her entire estate for mere pennies. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, that’s because it is.
Glover will play a private investigator whose mission is to follow around MacLaine’s daughter. Her only goal is to force Phil off of the estate’s property. Dillon is set to play Phil’s real estate agent and companion, Pudi will play the Dean of Economics at Brockton University, also Phil’s boss, who suspends him after learning of an affair that took place between him and a graduate student, played by Mylett.
Filming is underway in Vancouver.
