America Ferrera is making her directorial debut soon! She will be directing an adaptation of the YA book I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter for Netflix. While this is her debut as a film director, she has previously directed episodes of both Gentefied and Superstore.

She will be joined by Linda Yvette Chávez (Gentefied), who will write the screenplay for the film.

The novel tells the story of Julia Reyes, who must discover who she is after her older sister Olga is tragically killed. Her parents are determined to mold her after Olga in their grief, which is not something that Julia wants to happen. I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter is written by the New York Times bestseller Erica L. Sánchez.

Production has not yet started and there is no release date known.
