First Look at Netflix’s ‘The Dig’ Starring Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes!
Netflix has released the first images from it’s soon to be released film titled The Dig. Starring Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, and Lily James, The Dig is based on John Preston’s 2007 novel of the same name and is just one of Netflix’s latest film adaptations.
The novel takes place in 1939, on the eve of World War II. As Britain prepares for war, Edith Pretty, a widow living on a small farm in Suffolk, invites an archeologist to look at burial mounds on her farm. However, as the dig commences, the hope of buried treasure gives way to a much bigger—and more important—find.
The Dig is expected to be released on Netflix globally in 2021. Check out The Dig’s first images—and the cast styling their 1930s style wardrobe!
The Netflix film adaption will be directed by Simon Stone, with the screenplay written by Morira Buffani. Carey Mulligan has been cast as Edith Pretty, who invites amateur archeologist Basil Brown, played by Ralph Fiennes, to excavate the hidden treasure on her farm. Lily James has been cast as a fellow archeologist, who is faced with discrimination and misogyny for being a working woman, especially in a heavily male dominated field. Johnny Flynn, Ben Chaplin, Monica Dolan, and Ken Scott have also been cast, although their roles are unknown at this time.
