‘Star Wars’ Celebration Anaheim 2020 Canceled
Yet another cancelation has arrived amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and the latest victim is this year’s Star Wars Celebration.
This not-quite-annual event, which first began in 1999, is a fan gathering dedicated to celebrating the Star Wars franchise. The last convention took place in 2019 in Chicago, Illinois, and this year’s was originally scheduled for August 27-30 in Anaheim, California. However, an official announcement was made today confirming that the event has unfortunately been canceled in the interest of the health and safety of fans, attendees, exhibitors, guests, and staff.
In better news, Star Wars Celebration is now scheduled to return to the Anaheim Convention Center from August 18-21, 2022.
Ticket holders have the option of transferring their 2020 tickets to 2022, receiving a refund, or receiving credit toward Star Wars Celebration merchandise. Those who transfer their tickets to the next event will receive an exclusive stormtrooper character pin.
The refund and merchandise credit request period opens on June 22 and will close on August 26. Hotel reservations booked through the official room block in the Celebration housing portal will be automatically canceled.
Those that pre-ordered Celebration merchandise have the option to either still receive their order, or request a refund. The lineup of exclusive Star Wars Celebration Anaheim merchandise that would have been available at the convention will be available for purchase online sometime soon, and those that opt for a merchandise credit for their tickets will be able to use it toward those items.
