Showtime Developing Taika Waititi Series ‘The Auteur’ Starring Jude Law
Fresh off of Taika Waititi’s Oscar win for Jojo Rabbit, Showtime has confirmed that his series The Auteur is in development at the network. As reported by Deadline, the series will star Jude Law as a producer desperate to make the next great horror hit after producing a box office bomb. In his eagerness, however, he unwittingly traps his crew on a backlot with a real-life serial killer. Waititi will co-write the series with Peter Warren. According to Showtime,
“’The Auteur’ unites the wildly imaginative filmmaker Taika Waititi and the barbed wit of Peter Warren with the undeniable Jude Law in a bloody love letter to the movies that will make you simultaneously die laughing and want to run for your life.”
The series is based on the satirical horror-comedy graphic novel by Rick Spears, James Callahan and Luigi Anderson. Waititi is set to direct the pilot episode, and while the show hasn’t been officially picked up to series, Showtime has ordered several scripts. Waititi is also currently executive producing the series What We Do In The Shadows (based on his feature film of the same name) and will direct Thor: Love and Thunder, his second film for the Thor series after his success with Thor: Ragnarok.
