This Is Us actress and former 2000s pop star Mandy Moore released her first new original music in 10 years on Tuesday with the arrival of the single and video “When I Wasn’t Watching.” Moore is best known for her more traditional pop singles —  with 1999’s “Candy” and 2000’s “I Wanna Be With You” being her most popular singles in the US to date. But Moore’s sound evolved as her career took off, and her later albums highlighted Moore’s skills as a songwriter and a more stripped down showcase of her voice as she transitioned away from bubblegum pop. Moore took a hiatus from her solo music career to focus on her acting, with Tangled and its subsequent animated series featuring her singing as the character Rapunzel. This Is Us also features Moore as a singer, with her character Rebecca covering “Moonshadow” by Cat Stevens in earlier seasons.

Moore has teased new music via social media for several weeks, with the release of “When I Wasn’t Watching” coinciding with the premiere of the fourth season of This Is Us on September 24. On Tuesday, she announced the new single with a tweet:

Moore’s new album is expected in 2020. She can also be seen on the new season of NBC’s This Is Us on Tuesdays this fall and the upcoming film Midway by Roland Emmerich in November.
