2018 has been an incredibly long year for Game of Thrones fans, who have been patiently waiting for any morsel of news regarding the eighth and final season of the Emmy Award-winning fantasy drama television series.

As of this morning, fans can now mark their calendars and begin the final countdown. The official Game of Thrones Twitter account shared a video, which at first just appeared to be an epic trailer combining clips from previous seasons. However, the final seconds of the video revealed incredibly exciting news.

The six-episode series finale of Game of Thrones will officially premiere in April 2019. Almost all of the previous seasons of the legendary saga premiered during the month of April each year (including the very first), so it’s only fitting that they return to the original schedule for the beginning of the end.

Valar morghulis! Or well, maybe not. Let’s hope that at least some of our beloved favorites live to see the fate of Westeros. Who are you rooting for? Let us know in the comments! #ForTheThrone
