‘Birds of Prey’ Finds Its Black Mask

Ewan McGregor (Fargo, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace) will be playing Roman Sionis (also known as the Black Mask), Gotham City mob boss and leader of the False Face Society, in the upcoming Birds of Prey.

In the comic book upon which the movie is based, Roman Sionis comes from a wealthy family with parents who cared more about money and social hierarchy than they cared about him. Later in life, Roman burns down his family’s mansion, killing his parents and inheriting everything. He eventually becomes a ruthless and brutal crime lord and one of Batman’s greatest adversaries.

IMDB reports that the movie will focus on Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya. as they “…come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord.”

McGregor joins a star-studded cast, which includes Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, and Rosie Perez as Detective Renee Montoya.

Birds of Prey will be in theaters February 7, 2020, with an R rating.
