The CW’s 4400 follows the stories of people who have vanished from throughout history and suddenly returned with no idea what happened to them. The CW has released new images for episode 11 of the season entitled “You Only Meant Well.” The synopsis for the episode reads:

With the release of Marvel Studios’ Eternals, actor Barry Keoghan has been receiving a growing amount of attention and respect due to his portrayal of Druig, although this is far from his first role on the big screen. Thankfully, Eternals has elevated Keoghan from an under-appreciated fan-favorite to a household name in the works. Keoghan has been in an impressive collection of films and television series, many of which have received praise from critics and audiences alike. If Druig fans want more of Keoghan to appreciate, below are some of our personal favorites from his career catalogue to check out, and some projects to expect in the future.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Film4 Productions
The Killing of a Sacred Deer is easily one of the most unsettling movies to release in 2017. Scratch that, The Killing of a Sacred Deer is easily one of the most unsettling movies to release of all time. This psychological horror film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos is based on the Ancient Greek tragedy Iphigenia in Aulis. The film follows a cardiac surgeon (Colin Farrell) who secretly befriends a teenage boy (Keoghan) who has a dark connection to his past. The surgeon introduces the boy to his family, who all begin to fall mysteriously ill and approach death’s door.
There is no other way to put this: Keoghan freaks me out in the best way possible throughout this film. As Martin, Keoghan is mysterious and outright chilling as he maneuvers his way throughout the film and his character enacts his own sense of justice. This movie’s plot and Keoghan’s portrayal of Martin will absolutely leave you feeling uneasy, largely thanks to his notable range as an actor.

Calm With Horses/The Shadow of Violence
Film4 Productions
Calm With Horses is an Irish crime drama that was released in the United States under a different name, The Shadow of Violence. The film is an adaptation of a short story by the same name from the Young Skins collection by Colin Barrett. Calm With Horses follows Arm, a former boxer turned organized crime enforcer in rural Ireland, who is ordered to kill someone The film stars Cosmo Jarvis as Arm, Barry Keoghan, Niamh Algar, Ned Dennehy, Kiljan Moroney and David Wilmot.
Keoghan’s role in Calm With Horses is another member of the crime family and a close friend to Arm, Dymphna. Dymphna is another complex and violent character Keoghan, and yet again he is able to bring this character to life on-screen with a subtle and intimidating aura. As can be expected with any role that involves organized crime, there are a lot of different layers to Dymphna, and Keoghan is able to truly showcase this. Calm With Horses is another role in which Keoghan delivers a gripping performance rooted in an immense amount of reality.

American Animals
The Orchard
American Animals is a 2018 crime docudrama film written and directed by Bart Layton. Starring Evan Peters, Keoghan, Blake Jenner, Jared Abrahamson, and Ann Dowd, the film follows four college students who plan a heist of the school’s rarest books contained in the library. It tells the story of a real-life heist which took place at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky in 2004. The film received critical acclaim particularly for the use of unreliable narrators (the four men who performed the real-life heist).
Keoghan stars as Spencer Reinhard, an art student who is seeking some kind of excitement or tragedy for inspiration. While touring Transylvania University’s library’s rare-book collection, an incredibly rare first edition of John James Audubon’s Birds of America catches his eye. He and his friend Warren (Peters) then devise a plan to steal this book amongst other rare books, which leads to a 7-year stay in federal prison for all four young men. Keoghan’s portrayal of a starving art student who clearly doesn’t think things through enough turn criminal feels so real that at times it’s possible to forget Keoghan was not actually at the heist in 2004.

Chernobyl
HBO
Chernobyl is a 2019 historical drama miniseries from HBO that revolves around the Chernobyl disaster of 1986 at the titular nuclear power plant, and the actions that authorities did and did not take to address the aftermath. While the creative team behind the miniseries performed extensive research to tell this story as accurately as possible, there were obviously artistic liberties taken for dramatic purposes.
Keoghan portrays a civilian liquidator draftee, Pavel Gremov, who has been brought in to assist in the cleanup operation following the nuclear disaster. Keoghan is able to communicate Pavel’s emotional state during these events through another incredible performance. Audiences are able to connect with Pavel and understand that he is feeling way in over his head in the environment he is currently living and working in.

The Green Knight
A24/Lionsgate
The Green Knight is a 2021 epic medieval fantasy film directed, written, edited and produced by David Lowery. The film is adapted from the 14th-century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and stars Dev Patel as Gawain, a nephew of King Arthur, who sets out on a journey to test his courage and face the Green Knight. My sincerest hope coming out of The Green Knight is that it inspires more Arthurian tale adaptations.
While Keoghan does not have a ton of screen time in this film, the screen time he does have is vital and proves his range as an actor once again and helps shape the medieval world around him. Keoghan’s role is a scavenger who plays an important role in Gawain’s journey. The scavenger is another role where Keoghan gets to display how eery and unsettling he can become, yet manages to bring an endearing playfulness to the character.

Upcoming
The Batman
The Batman is movie reboot of the iconic DC Comics property spanning all the way back to 1939. This film thrusts The Lighthouse alumni Pattinson into the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Alongside Pattinson, Keoghan is confirmed in the cast as Officer Stanley Merkel. While Stanley Merkel comes straight from the comics as Jim Gordon’s first partner at the Gotham City Police Department, and was eventually killed by the Hangman, there have been rumors for months now that Keoghan’s character will actually be the Reeves Universe’s Joker.
Release Date: March 4, 2022
Masters of the Air
From the production company that brought audiences Band of Brothers and The Pacific comes a new war drama miniseries, Masters of the Air. The miniseries is based on the actions of the Eighth Air Force of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, which will certainly not be the first WWII inspired role Keoghan has stepped into. Masters of the Air is already underway with production, and will stream exclusively on AppleTV+.
Release Date: TBD
Sapphire
While it has been quite some time since any news on Sapphire has released, this is a project that I am personally looking forward to an incredible amount and hope it is going forward still. Sapphire is an upcoming thriller from director Matthew Wolfe and is co-written by Wolfe and his brother, Daniel. The film focuses a world-champion snooker player plagued by a gambling addiction who escapes to China in search of a fresh start only to become indebted to illegal bookmakers and forced into a mortal dilemma. Keoghan is currently the only confirmed member of the cast.
Release Date: TBD
The Banshees of Inisherin
The Banshees of Inisherin is an upcoming drama film from Martin McDonagh and Film4 Productions. Banshees will follow a pair of lifelong friends (Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell) on a remote Irish island who find themselves at an awkward time in their relationship when one of them no longer wants to be friends. Unfortunately for the pair, there are alarming consequences for ending the friendship. Keoghan confirmed filming had wrapped for the film October 23, 2021.
Release Date: TBD

As Naomi researches the mysterious UFO crash that happened on the day she was adopted, her romantic prospects collide while her new powers rise to the surface. Read on to find out what happened on Naomi as she searches for an “Unidentified Flying Object”!
Crash Landing
Danny Delgado/The CW
We pick up right where we left off in the pilot episode in Dee’s garage. He informs Naomi that while he’s not sure exactly who Naomi is, he knows she’s not from this Earth. On March 14, 2004, a UFO crashed in Port Oswego, and Dee sensed Naomi’s presence. Dee reveals he’s from Thanagar and that his wings are made from a special metal found on that planet. Naomi asks why he didn’t tell her sooner, and he shares that since Naomi’s abilities were dormant and she seemed happy, he didn’t want to disturb her. He sends her home, wanting her to rest before her life changes forever.
The next day, the two meet on a bridge outside town. Dee quite literally wants Naomi to jump off the bridge. He says this will prove to her that she is an alien: she won’t hit the ground, levitating above it instead. He points out she’s never been injured in her life, a revelation that stuns Naomi. Dee wants Naomi to be able to know about her powers to keep her safe, noting that he can’t be the only alien who’s sensed her powers develop. Dee slips in that Superman is real and that Dee knows him from a long ago war. It’s this detail that causes Naomi to go full panic mode and tell Dee that he must be making it all up. Dee simply launches himself over the edge, slowly rising on the strength of his wings, in order to prove his point: Naomi is who she is, whether she wants to be or not.
After her adventure at the mill, Naomi goes back to Dee’s garage. She asks why he’s helping her, and Dee tells her he knows what it’s like to be different and not know why. She’s a bit more excited, and he picks up on her energy, telling her it is pretty “cool.” She wants to meet Superman, and thanks Dee for telling her the truth. She wants his help to learn to control her powers. On the bridge, “I am not a woman, I’m a god” by Halsey plays as Naomi leaps off. True to Dee’s prediction, she flies.
Parental Units
Danny Delgado/The CW
Naomi interrogates her parents about the circumstances of her adoption, wanting to know exactly how her birth parents died. They both hedge, telling her they’ve never been sure since it was a closed adoption, but both are supportive of her quest to find more information (or they’re at least pretending to be). Naomi’s father reassures her that they love her and will be there for her no matter what.
Greg is called into a meeting with his boss Commander Steel, who informs Greg that the military is currently investigating the Superman incident. They don’t believe that Dee really planned it, finding a scrap of red fabric near the Red River Forest landing site that is indestructible. His boss tells Greg to find out why Dee lied and what really happened.
When Greg comes home, he shares with Jennifer that the number Dee gave for the actor he supposedly hired is a dead end. Greg tells Jennifer that he doesn’t think Dee is a threat but that he’s definitely hiding something, proving that both he and Jennifer know more about Naomi’s origins than they’re telling. Steel offers him a place on the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF), officially confirming to Greg that the military thinks Superman and aliens are real — and on Earth.
Life in the Friendzone
Danny Delgado/The CW
At school, Anthony adorably brings Naomi a coffee and tells her it was fun hanging out with her (despite, you know, the break in). He asks her on a date as a distracted Naomi says yes, and he is thrilled.
Later, when Annabelle asks Naomi what she’s planning on wearing to her date with Anthony, Naomi insists that they have pizza all the time and that it’s not a date. Both Jacob and Annabelle are skeptical (poor Anthony!), with Annabelle noting that she feels “so much internal cringe, babe.”
Anthony helps Jennifer make pizza in the kitchen as Naomi arrives after her heart to heart with Annabelle. Anthony tells her if the UFO hunt is important to Naomi, it’s important to him. Nathan arrives to work on he and Naomi’s class project, making both Anthony and Nathan defensive. Anthony wants Naomi to feel like she can talk to him, even if they’re not together.
After Lourdes drops off the crew, Naomi goes to Anthony. He playfully asks about the pizza date, and his face falls when she admits she didn’t know he wanted to get pizza “like that.” She says she has a lot going on and wants to stay friends for now, noting that, “I’m not saying no, Anthony, I’m just saying not right now.” Looking for any scrap of hope he can find, he reassures Naomi that, “I can live with that.”
Into the Woods
Danny Delgado/The CW
In light of Dee’s revelations, Naomi invites Annabelle over to strategize. Naomi wants to find the original UFO crash site, thinking it would give her answers. She babbles about how it was probably a military drone, but Annabelle immediately points out that it’s way too coincidental that the UFO landed the day Naomi was adopted. Annabelle calls Jacob for help since he has a barely-working vehicle (emphasis on “barely”), and the three head off to Naomi’s proposed site at Falls Creek.
Jacob, it turns out, is a true believer in UFOs and even has a kit to find them. They scan the area for clues, with Naomi’s heightened senses leading the way. They overwhelm her, and she is forced to tell Annabelle what Dee told her. Annabelle is thrilled that she might know a real superhero. Naomi and Annabelle debate whether or not this news is welcome under the guise of talking about Greek gods as a confused Nathan listens in.
Naomi, Annabelle, Jacob, and Anthony assemble to look at the photos the trio took at the crash site. Anthony shares the story of Steve O’Brien, an urban legend. Steve supposedly went into the woods to find the crash site, but “weird” things started happening. Steve never talked about the incident again and still lives in Port Oswego.
They find Steve, who knows Anthony’s father. Steve doesn’t initially want to talk about what happened, saying he just wants to be normal. Naomi gently pushes, and he opens up. Like Naomi, Steve was skateboarding through the town square when he saw the UFO. He and his friends tried to find the crash site, but he was overwhelmed by heightened senses and voices surrounding him. They got close to the mill where the object crashed, but after hearing a screech and being surrounded by light, Steve ended up back at his car with no memory of how he got there. Steve also shares that the crash site wasn’t Falls Creek — they’ve been looking in the wrong place.
Naomi wants to solve the mystery right away, but the others admit they have a lot of homework to catch up on. Annabelle goes to comfort a frustrated Naomi, who laments that her whole life she has felt different and now she may be a literal alien. She just wants to be normal, but Annabelle tells her she is exceptional regardless of her human status.
Danny Delgado/The CW
Anthony, Jacob, Nathan, and Annabelle accompany Naomi to the mill. Jacob’s car breaks down, and naturally, Lourdes is called in to assist, putting all three of Naomi’s love interests together. Inside the mill, they find strange symbols written all over the walls. Naomi recognizes them as the same markings that are on the disc before she hears Zumbado arrive. He asks to speak with Naomi alone, something her friends aren’t willing to do, but Naomi tells them to leave so they can be safe.
Naomi asks what he wants, and Zumbado tells her he just wants her to stop investigating. Debris begins to circle Naomi, which Zumbado says is impressive. He knocks her off her feet before telling her not to “mess around” in things she doesn’t understand. Naomi runs back to her friends.
Naomi airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. You can find out other coverage of the series here.

Guillermo del Toro’s latest release Nightmare Alley is set to stream on both Hulu and HBO Max! The critically acclaimed film stars Bradley Cooper as a con artist who meets his match in Cate Blanchett’s manipulative psychiatrist. Nightmare Alley is considered a frontrunner this awards season for its production design and overall direction. As part of that campaign, the film was given a limited run in black and white this week in a tribute to its noir roots.
Due to previous rights agreements, the Searchlight Pictures film will stream on both services on February 1 despite Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. You can find our review of Nightmare Alleyhere!

In this week’s episode of The Book of Boba Fett, “The Gathering Storm,” we finally learn exactly how Boba Fett’s alliance with Fennec Shand was originally forged. After he saved her from the brink of certain death, Fennec assisted Fett in reclaiming his ship from Jabba’s palace, and she stuck around for some other pertinent errands, too. In the current day, Fett adds a new ally to his repertoire, an agreement is made with the powerful families of Mos Espa, and the return of a key character is teased as the planet is on the brink of war.
An alliance is forged
This episode finally reveals the finer details behind Boba Fett and Fennec Shand’s partnership. Cut back to The Mandalorian season 1, episode 5, “The Gunslinger,” which found Din Djarin looking for work on Tatooine while Peli Motto was working on the Razor Crest. He met a bounty hunter named Toro Calican, whose target was Fennec Shand. After they caught her, Fennec tried to manipulate Toro to free him, but he shot her in the stomach instead. The Book of Boba Fett shows a flashback that picks back up where the end scene of that episode of The Mandalorian left off when Boba Fett found Fennec left for dead in the desert. The original scene had immediately lit up fan speculation over the return of Boba Fett, so it was only fitting to return to it.
After finding her, Boba Fett takes Fennec Shand to a mod-parlor on the outskirts of Mos Eisley, which explains why her stomach is partially made up of droid parts now. When Fennec finally comes to, she agrees to help him recover his ship (which is currently parked inside of Jabba’s Palace) in order to repay her debt to him. The old Boba Fett would have been able to waltz right in to get it back, but he’s less persuasive these days without the help of his armor.
The two stake out the building, only to find that it’s teeming with guards everywhere. Fett shares an endearing goodbye with his faithful bantha before they sneak inside. They make it to the ship but hit a bit of a snag when a guard sounds the alarm. However, between the two of them, they manage to make it out alive with the ship intact. Boba Fett asks Fennec where she’d like him to drop her off now that her debt is paid, and she asks where he’s headed next instead, saying that she’ll come along for the ride.

Running errands with Boba Fett
Now that Boba Fett has his trusty ship back, he has a few errands to take care of. The first on the list is avenging the Tusken Raiders. He finds the Nikto sand riders making their way through the desert and ruthlessly shoots them all down without so much as a second glance. With that problem out of the way, he goes to revisit an old haunt: the Sarlacc. Given his state when he desperately crawled out of the pit, he has no clue that his armor was stolen by Jawas, and he’s convinced that it’s still in the belly of the Sarlacc. Despite Fennec’s hesitance, he brings hovers the ship over it as close as possible, which becomes a problem when the Sarlacc wakes up and grabs ahold of them. Things are looking grim, but Fennec thinks to release one of the ship’s seismic charges, and the Sarlacc is toast. Afterward, Fett insists on crawling into the remains of the pit to continue looking for his armor, which he obviously doesn’t find, and an unimpressed Fennec dumps water on him to clean the Sarlacc acid off.
Plans for a new future
Later, Boba Fett and Fennec sit around a fire, and they discuss Fett’s plans to form his own house. As a former bounty hunter himself, Fett reflects on how many times they’ve been hired to do jobs that could have been avoidable. He’s tired of their kind dying because of the idiocy of others. And he wants Fennec by his side. She’s uncertain about this because she wants her freedom, but Fett promises her loyalty, a cut of the success, and a pledge of his life to protect hers. She tells him that living with the Tuskens has made him soft, but he corrects her. It has made him strong. You can only get so far without a tribe.
Recruitment continues
Boba Fett wakes up in the current day, and as he gets out of the bacta pod, his dressing droid congratulates him. He’s completely healed. Fennec tells him that there’s still no sign of the Mayor. Later, he stops in at the Sanctuary, where Krrsantan has decided to pick a fight with the Trandoshans (much to the dismay of Garsa Fwip). After Krrsantan leaves, Fett finds him and offers him a job working with him at the Palace.
A plea
Mos Espa’s ruling families, the Trandoshans, the Klatooinians, and the Aqualish, gather for a meeting with Boba Fett at the Palace. After an introduction from Fennec, Fett explains to them that he has no designs on their territories. He has simply asked them there to make a mutually beneficial proposal. He explains how the Pyke Syndicate is mustering troops in Mos Espa. Their spice trade is affecting Tatooine. They have bribed the Mayor and are now draining the planet of its wealth.

Initially, they’re a bit hostile toward Fett’s leadership, asking what’s preventing them from killing them and taking what they want. However, the dinner table has been conveniently placed over top of the rancor pit, and the hungry creature chooses that moment to reach up through the grates and roar. They settle back down, and Fett proposes that all of the families join in a defensive alliance against the Pyke Syndicate. However, recognizing that the feud is between Fett and the Pykes, they state that they have no interest in spilling their own blood for him. Fett says that he will fight the battles alone, and he will make the streets safe again so that they all may prosper. Instead, he asks that they all simply remain neutral if the Pyke Syndicate asks them to betray him. They agree to his terms.
The return of …
After their guests leave, Boba Fett tells Fennec that they must prepare for war. In turn, she asks him how much treasure they have in reserve. Fett assures her that he has plenty of credits, but it’s muscle that they’re short on. Fennec replies, “Credits can buy muscle if you know where to look,” and her statement is followed by the telltale notes of The Mandalorian theme. It looks like Din Djarin will be making an appearance in The Book of Boba Fett!
The next episode ofThe Book of Boba Fettwill premiere exclusively on Disney+ on Wednesday, January 26. Follow along with all of our weekly recaps here.
