‘Walker’: The Complete Series Coming to DVD

0

The complete series for Walker is set to arrive on DVD on October 22. Walker, which ran four seasons on The CW, ended this summer. It was The CW’s most-viewed show for years before the network, which was bought by Nexstar, decided to go in a different direction with its programming.

Walker was helmed by Anna Fricke and starred Jared Padalecki, who also executive-produced the series. The series also starred Keegan Allen, Ashley Reyes, Mitch Pileggi, Molly Hagan, Coby Bell, Jeff Pierre, Odette Annable, Kale Culley, and Violet Brinson.

Walker shared the story of Cordell Walker (Padalecki) as he navigates his family after the death of his wife, Emily, played by Genevieve Padalecki. The four seasons captivated audiences as the Rangers navigated some explosive storylines, balancing families and friendships.

Review: ‘Caddo Lake’ is a Great Thriller Full of Surprises at Every Turn

0

MAX’s Caddo Lake, released today, is a thriller directed by Logan George and Celine Held, and produced by M. Night Shyamalan. The film centers around an 8-year-old girl, Anna, who disappears on the lake.

Editor’s Note: There are spoilers below. Read at your own risk.

The film has two separate storylines as the film starts; one led by Dylan O’Brien’s Paris, and one with Eliza Scanlen’s Ellie. As the story unfolds, twists and turns lead you down a path of a story you never expected, connecting the storylines in a surprising way.

The trailer does a good job of concealing what the film is about; time travel. While many films get lost in a puzzle of time travel, Caddo Lake manages to keep it interesting enough to keep the audience engaged, but also unravel points at just the right time to have the audience start connecting the dots on how everything is related. The first time we see Eliza time travel almost reminded me a bit of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, but it took on a whole new world of its own. This film had the chance to go down a lot of paths with time travel, but they made it easy to follow and kept it relatively simple so as not to confuse the audience.

Caddo Lake is visually stunning, and taking place mostly outdoors, they made the lake beautiful and eerie, and a character all of its own. The film was wonderfully shot, and there were specific scenes I loved due to the continuous movement with no cuts. They made subtle differences in changing the timelines, and it was enough to know when it changed time periods but not enough to make it tacky.

While Dylan O’Brien is no stranger to the thriller genre (Teen Wolf, anyone?), he gives a stunning performance here as Paris. His southern drawl is authentic and charming, and he sells every single scene he’s in, unable to draw your eyes away from him. You really end up connecting with Paris and feeling for him and his journey. He’s a perfect lead for this film (and any film, truly) and he really showcases his acting skills here.

Eliza Scanlen’s performance is also captivating. Eliza carries so much emotion throughout her performance, whether it’s dealing with Anna or her mom, Her emotions are so readable across her face and really brings you along the journey as she starts to unravel all of the mysteries surrounding Anna’s disappearance and her family.

The cast was also rounded out with great performances from Diana Hopper, Lauren Ambrose, Eric Lange, Caroline Falk, and Sam Hennings. The chemistry between all of the cast was palpable.

I do almost wish that the film was a series; there was so much more left to explore with the different family dynamics and timelines — but I guess that’s a sign of a great film, leaving you wanting more. The ending may shock most of you; and while I won’t spoil the ending, I was a bit disappointed in the choice, but I also understood why it had to happen. Overall, it’s a great thriller, arriving just in time for spooky season.

Let us know what you think of the film and the ending! Check out Caddo Lake now on MAX, and stay tuned for our interview with Dylan O’Brien.

Review: ‘My Hero Academia: You’re Next’ Is a Fun Break From The Final War Arc

It’s been a climactic year for My Hero Academia fans, as the manga came to a bittersweet end this past August, and the anime is currently in the midst of its most pivotal battle. Now, the upcoming film, My Hero Academia: You’re Next, is due to premiere in North America this week.

Set after the events of season 6, You’re Next sees Deku and the rest of U.A.’s best up against a new challenge — Dark Might, a new villain who’s imitating All Might.

So with four My Hero Academia films now officially on the docket, where does You’re Next stack up? While Heroes Rising and World Heroes’ Mission do remain at the top of my personal rankings, You’re Next is a fun and entertaining new entry to the franchise’s theatrical releases — and it couldn’t have arrived at a better time.

Between the tough latter half of season 6 and now all throughout season 7, things have been looking bleak for Deku and co. as they find themselves burdened with fighting the most important battle of their lives. You’re Next offers a brief, much-needed respite from the harrowing Final War arc with a lower stakes mission (though it does still call for all hands on deck!) and plenty of the series’ classic lighthearted, comedic moments throughout. I didn’t realize how much I had missed seeing the students acting goofy, bickering, and just being themselves until now.

Following Deku’s Dark Hero arc (and the emotional turmoil it caused between him and his classmates), I really enjoyed having a chance to (chronologically) see the whole crew back in action briefly without the imminent threat of All For One at the forefront of the plot. It’s always great to see how Class 1-A takes on challenges outside of U.A. and finds ways to work together when they’re up against villains, particularly when they don’t have the pro heroes or their teachers there to take charge of the situation.

You’re Next introduces several new characters, including Giulio and Anna, whose intriguing connection is revealed as the film unravels. Giulio isn’t quite Rody Soul for me (that’s a tall order to fill, anyway), but he’s got an emotional backstory that will keep you hooked. And if you’re going in dubbed like I did (My Hero continues to produce one of my favorite English dubs of all time), voice actor Christopher Sabat (All Might) leaves no stone unturned while hamming it up as Dark Might.

Also, Bakugo is in peak form and an unapologetic scene stealer. Enough said.

Personally, I’ve always enjoyed the fact that the My Hero Academia films are original, enclosed stories. We win on several levels, because we’re not seeing a manga arc forcibly condensed into a film’s runtime, we’re getting more screen time with our favorite heroes, and we’re getting a story that was produced for the big screen — the animation here looks fantastic! Any extra time spent with U.A.’s best is worth it for a fan (… and I’ll take all of the Hawks crumbs I can get, thanks).

With the end of the road for My Hero Academia on the horizon, You’re Next is a fitting tribute to All Might, U.A.’s next generation of promising heroes, and the importance of recognizing the difference between strength and power.

My Hero Academia: You’re Next will hit theaters in the U.S. and Canada on October 11.

Photos: Jordan Davis at Budweiser Gardens

On October 2, 2024, Jordan Davis lit up Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario, kicking off the Canadian portion of the “Damn Good Time World Tour” with a night to remember. Budweiser Gardens was the perfect backdrop for Davis’ first Canadian stop, as the venue is known for its energetic atmosphere and loyal country music fans. As the crowd entered and filled the arena seats, the excitement was ever-present.

The evening began when Ashley Cooke took the stage, her heartfelt lyrics and warm presence reaching out to the audience. Mitchell Tenpenny followed and brought with him an energy of his own, getting the crowd engaged and setting the stage perfectly for the main act.

When Davis finally took the stage, he opened with a track from his latest album Damn Good Time. It was a high-energy start that instantly resonated with the crowd, who sang along with every word. Throughout the night, Davis showcased not only his musical talents but also his genuine appreciation for the audience – he connected with his crowd by tossing guitar picks into the audience, and even took a tequila shot on stage as an ode to his fans for their constant love and support.

A standout moment was when Davis invited his openers back to the stage, first bringing out Cooke, followed by Tenpenny, to perform a few nostalgic “throwback” songs. This collaboration not only highlighted the camaraderie among artists but was also loved by fans who appreciated the surprise element.

Davis combined his set with a mix of his hits, including “Buy Dirt,” which served as the perfect closing tune to round off the evening. The crowd was also treated to his original songs and a surprise cover of “Over My Head (Cable Car)” by The Fray, where Davis got to showcase his playful side and ability to mix genres.

Throughout the night, London, Ontario proved once again their profound love for country music, which Davis’ performance also solidified. His authentic connection with the audience, combined with the warm and welcoming energy from the openers, made for a truly unforgettable performance and evening as a whole. For country music fans in London, this concert was a perfect reminder of why live music is such a key part of the community. Jordan Davis left the stage to the tune of his cheering fans, promising that this was just the beginning of a damn good time.
