You may know Matt Cohen from his role as Young John Winchester/Michael on The CW’s Supernatural, or as Griffin on ABC’s General Hospital, or from his roles on Criminal Minds: Beyond BordersSouth of Nowhere, or a host of other projects he’s been a part of.

Recently, Matt has stepped into filling in quite a few times on the show Extra TV, which is hosted by Mario Lopez. Matt seems to enjoy it, and the fans love seeing him on there!

He recently just did a three-day stint on the show, and just absolutely killed it. He seemed like such a natural, and I know that fans were tuning in just to see him. We hope Extra takes notice and Matt will return to the show for more!

Happy Birthday Jared Padalecki! Read Our Favorite Jared Moments!

Courtesy of our writer Nicole

Today is Jared Padalecki’s birthday, so we’re celebrating by telling some of our favorite moments – either ones we’ve experienced with Jared himself at a convention, what his campaign “Always Keep Fighting” means to us or what his characters mean to us.

Read some of those moments below!

Kayla:

My favorite memories of Jared are from my convention experiences.  I always wear my “Always Keep Fighting” shirts for my Jared photo ops and I love seeing the way his face lights up when he sees it.

The first time I met Jared was at  the D.C. convention in 2016. I was a nervous wreck. We walked into the photo op and there he was. What you see on TV does not prepare you for seeing him in person. We were waiting in line, and a fan and Jared had a very emotional moment. Jared got down to this fan’s eye level, and you could see his entire demeanor change. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room. Mine certainly weren’t. Seeing Jared’s compassion for his fans was so overwhelming in that moment.

I saw Jared again the Supernatural convention in Pittsburgh in 2017. I walked up to him and he was already smiling and had his arms open. I had one of my AKF shirts for Jared’s photo ops and once again he just lit up and he says “I love your shirt!” When I walked up to him, I told him I wanted the biggest hug he had. He said “You got it,” and pulled me in. Right before we were about to take the picture he took me completely by surprise and squeezed me even harder. When you ask Jared for a big hug, he more than delivers.

Most recently, I saw Jared at the convention in D.C. in November of last year. My only op with him that day was an op with him and Misha that I was sharing with a friend. While my friend was explaining what we wanted for our pose to Misha, I was standing near Jared and once again I had on one of his campaign shirts. I looked up (and up, and up) and Jared and he sees my shirt and he plucked my collar a little and told me again that he loved my shirt. Once we finally got our pose explained he and Misha shoved me and my friend together. We really didn’t have anything planned, so the ensuing pose was all of Misha and Jared’s design. The next thing I knew Jared’s very long leg was swinging at me and Misha was grabbing it. The ending result was pure madness, but it’s one of my favorite photo ops.

Seeing just how much Jared cares about his fans, and seeing that in person is something I’ll always treasure and I’m so thankful I’ve gotten to experience that. Also, you have not lived until you’ve had a hug from Jared Padalecki.

Elizabeth:

I’ve been fortunate enough to meet Jared on three occasions, Houscon 2017, Supernatural Day in Austin, and recently Chicon 2018 (and in case you were wondering, yes, he really is that tall).

In every instance, he did his best to make me feel welcome, and wanted and safe. I still cherish the picture I took with him, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins in Houston where I was dressed as a Ghostbuster and he insisted on playing with my proton pack. I’ll also remember the #BeanieSquad (if you’re reading this, I hope you love your Pop, Jared). I remember my friend Deb helping me through the crowd to get a picture with him at Supernatural Day, cause I was simultaneously overwhelmed and intimidated at the prospect of asking myself (he kinda has that effect on people).

He’s a giant goofball, there’s no denying that. He made me laugh so hard when he came out during the Houston 2017 gold panel in Misha’s Castiel outfit. But he’s also someone with a heart as big as his home state.

I’ve written before about how his AKF campaign helped me see that the way I was dealing with my anxiety and depression was only hurting me and the people around me. While there were organizations and campaigns out there raising awareness and funds for mental health before AKF, I appreciated his willingness to step forward and be honest about his situation and encourage others to seek help. Speaking from personal experience, admitting something like that isn’t easy. It’s downright terrifying, and I wasn’t the one doing it in the public eye.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, “Thank you.” Thank you, Jared, for the memories and Sam Winchester and AKF. Thank you for now fourteen years that you’ve shared with us both onscreen and onstage. While we know (intellectually at least) that eventually Sam and Dean and Cas’ story will come to an end, thank you for giving it your all and doing the best job you could.

Emily:

It was the end of a very, very long convention weekend. Panels were done, photo ops were done and all that was left was autographs. As often happens on Sunday nights at Supernatural conventions, autographs got a little messy. I was waiting in one line, but then I had to jump in another line before that guest left, then get back in the first line, the finally finish there and go to Jensen’s line… it was a lot. Finally, all I had left was Jared’s autograph. I had decided to get my copy of Family Don’t End with Blood signed, and I had it all ready to go when I realized: I was the very last person in line. I waited and waited, and finally it was my turn. I was planning on saying what I always say during autographs, “Congratulations on 13 seasons of Supernatural and thank you for being such a big part of my life.” But… the person in front of me lingered for quite a while, so I did not have the chance. Instead, Jared signed my book and when he passed it back, I shrugged my shoulders and said, “Guess I’m the last one!” He looked at his handler to confirm, and then stood up. And hugged me. And before I knew it I was hugging Jared and he kissed me on the cheek!

Now, I am one who prides myself in keeping my sh*t together at conventions, and I am able to do this because I rehearse and prepare for all of my interactions with “the faves” throughout the weekend. I COULD NOT HAVE PREPARED FOR THIS. I bet the convention staff got a real kick out of seeing this girl in her “Love Yourself First” shirt flailing her arms and jumping up and down and squealing, not necessarily voluntarily. And not only did they have to endure it, but my friend at the convention had to endure it, the people I was in the elevator with had to endure it, and considering I proceeded to jump around my room for half an hour, probably everyone with an adjacent room to me had to deal with it. But I truly could not contain myself. This was my only Jared interaction of the convention, and it was something I could have never expected and I will never forget.

Jared, you sign hundreds of things for hundreds of people, dozens of times a year. And even still, as the very last person in line, you made me feel special and important. Thank you for that, and a very Happy Birthday. Here’s to many more!

Deb:

My favorite Jared moment happened at SPNNola.  I wanted to do something for my photo ops that was original and not Supernatural related at all. Since I live in Oklahoma, I had a friend design a t-shirt that played up the notorious rivalry between Oklahoma University and the University of Texas. Both Jensen and Jared loved it. It did help that OU had creamed UT a couple of weeks prior.  I still remember what Jared said to me, ”Come here, I’ll still hug you even if you are OU,” as he pulled me against his chest.

It was totally hilarious and adorable and everything that makes me think of Jared.  He is a wonderful human being who enjoys making others happy. His sense of humor is infectious and you can’t deny his love for his fans when you see him at a con.

Thank you, Jared, for giving me some very special moments to treasure. I’m sending you many happy birthday wishes and I hope you have an amazing day wrapped in the love of your family and friends.

Melanie:

One of my favorite Jared moments is actually from the show itself. In Season 12, Episode 22 “Who We Are,” Sam has what I consider one of the most inspiring speeches in Supernatural’s history. After working with the British Men of Letters, desiring a world free of monsters, a world we know Sam has wanted since the very first episode of Supernatural, he admits to a room full of hunters he was wrong. He admits that’s not what the British Men of Letters really wanted. And then my absolute favorite part, he asks them to follow him. In that moment, Sam became a leader.

I feel like that was a real turning point. Sam wasn’t just a little brother, or just a hunter, or the myriad of wonderful things Sam is. He could do this on his own and lead others. Sam was always strong, but that inner strength Jared portrayed in that moment inspires me to be strong in my own journey. And there are so many more inspiring moments Jared gives us in his portrayal of Sam to be strong, to work hard, to have hope, or to not be afraid to lean on those closest to us when we lose that hope.

And Jared has a way of doing that for us in his own way, too. I’m not sure I’d be as happy and fulfilled in life as I am right now if it wasn’t for stumbling across Supernatural and Jared’s Always Keep Fighting campaign. Hearing his own story helped me to not be ashamed of my own. Jared inspires hope and strength in so many people. I know for sure he inspires me.

Thank you, Jared, for being such a wonderful person! You deserve a birthday just as wonderful filled with family, friends and all the love in the world! Happy birthday, Jared!

Nicole:

So we all know how amazing Jared is, that goes without saying.  But I absolutely adore his playful side, and I have two interactions with him that stand out more than any others.  The first one was at NJCon 2015. It was my second con and it had been a rough, long Sunday. So when I went in for my op with him, I just asked him for a big hug.  Jared proceeded to wrap himself around me and said I got you sweetheart, and then he elbowed me in the side and I cracked up. It’s one of my favorite pictures with him.  The second time was during my Jared solo op at Jib this year. I walked up to him, showed him my pose and he was like “Ok, but you’re kind of short.” So I, of course, snarked back at him and said, “Oh I’ve NEVER heard that before.”  He laughed, and it was just so much fun.

There are so many facets to Jared’s personality but I think my favorite one is his humility.  He always seems surprised at how much people love him and never acts like he’s better than anyone else.  He lets his fans see the good, the bad and the ugly and it makes me like and respect him that much more. He is just a really cool dude from Texas that likes to hang out with thousands of us on the weekends.  Thank you Jared, I hope you have an AMAZING and wonderful birthday! AKF!

Kailey:

Although I have never met Jared before, I have always admired him as an actor and as an advocate for those who struggle with mental illness. His AKF (Always Keep Fighting) message has swept across the fandom and has truly touched many fans, including myself.

One scene in particular from Supernatural that reminds me of this is in Season 8, Episode 23 “Sacrifice”. As Sam prepares to seal the gates of Hell, he tells Dean what he has prayed about in the church. He prayed about all his mistakes and how each one led Dean to be disappointed. Sam constantly holds that with him everyday, but he never once stops thinking about others and how he can do better. Sam was ready to make the ultimate sacrifice because he doesn’t want anyone else to get hurt because of him.

Often in our lives, we always try to learn from our mistakes and do better for ourselves and others. I think Sam has really tried to overcome his struggles since they began. Sam hasn’t had it easy since he was 6 months old and he never gives up.

That’s why I think Sam and Jared are so important because they teach us to Always Keep Fighting no matter what life throws at us. Happy Birthday Jared and Always Keep Fighting!

Gisselle:

There are so many wonderful Jared moments that I’ve witnessed; be it on Supernatural, within gag reels, at conventions, or through the words of fellow Supernatural cast and fans, Jared Padalecki’s presence has touched so many lives, and I find that many people have incredible stories to share about him. I have one favorite memory of a moment I shared with Jared, and it actually took place at this year’s convention in Chicago.

I had recently graduated from my university this past May, and it honestly was such a huge accomplishment and conclusion to one of the most difficult and mentally trying periods of my life. Not only was I constantly suffering from anxiety attacks, I also had undergone a change in my major, was working three jobs (two full-time), and was enrolled in university’s Honors program and had to complete an undergraduate research project. I pushed through and succeeded, though, and did so with straight A’s and Magna Cum Laude!

So, because of this, I made a poster that was a play off of Dean’s speech to Bobby at the end of Supernatural’s first episode of season five, where he says, “What I do have is a GED and a give ‘em hell attitude.” I ended up modifying it to say “Bachelors” instead, and took a Jared and Jensen photo op with it!

My favorite moment with Jared, however, came when I brought the poster to him during his autograph session so he could sign it. Once it was my turn, he grinned at me, and after we exchanged pleasantries, he took a moment to read my sign again. Once he did, he threw his head back with a joyous laugh, and kept smiling while he signed it. He capped his marker, looked up at me, and raised his hand for a high-five.

“Congratulations,” he said, with a smile. “That is amazing.”

It was a fleeting moment, but it was a moment in which I felt that Jared, someone that I have admired for such a long time, was truly proud of me. It honestly made my heart burst with happiness. Thank you so much, Jared. I hope you have the happiest of birthdays, and I hope to see you again next year!

Hailee:

Most of my favorite Jared moments comes from watching him be goofy and silly at conventions. He always seems to have such a wonderfully fun time on stage, and it is hard to keep from belly laughing as you watch his and Jensen’s antics.

The moment that sticks out most for me is during SPNNash 2017 where Jared was making everyone laugh so hard by obsessing over the word “bunghole” and by showing off his rather awful accent skills. I was laughing so hard that my stomach hurt and tears were running down my face.

After reading Jared’s chapter in Family Don’t End in Blood, moments like those mean even more to me. That such an amazing man who has struggled so much can bring that many people joy and laughter by simply being himself is incredible. JARED is incredible.

Happiest of birthdays Jared! Thank you for being you. Thank you for all that you do. But mostly, thank you for making us smile. Have an amazing day!!

Alana:

I’m lucky enough to have had several very meaningful experiences with Jared. He’s one of my heroes for several reasons, the main one being how he’s helped me come to terms with my anxiety. The interaction between us that sticks out the most in my head took place at the Washington D.C. Supernatural convention in 2017. At this point I had been to a few conventions and interacted with him several times, but I didn’t think he knew who I was. So when I went up with Lynn Zubernis (from Fangasm) and my mom to get his autograph, I was completely unprepared for what he was going to say to me.

Lynn formally introduced me to Jared. He looked up at me with this sly grin on his face and said “oh, I know who Alana is. I’ve seen her videos online. She’s awesome”. I think my mouth opened and closed but nothing came out except a small “thank you”. My mom was obviously unfazed and just struck up a conversation with him. She said “I’m Alana’s mom!” and Jared responded with “Hi Mom, I’m Jared!” before shaking her hand. This is another thing I’ve noticed about Jared. Whenever someone is introduced to him, he always shakes their hand and introduces himself right back. He never expects someone to know who he is, even if he’s at a freaking Supernatural convention. What a sweetheart.

Jared continued talking to my mom even though he had finished signing our items already. “You did a great job,” he said, referring to me, “She’s a good one. I hope my daughter turns out like her.” At this point I just lost it. When your hero tells you that he hopes his own child turns out like you one day… How are you supposed to keep it together? To me, there was no higher compliment that I could’ve been given. I cried for a solid 30 minutes afterwards, during which I saw Rob and Jensen who both asked me what was wrong. My mom spoke for me and just said “Jared,” to which they both nodded knowingly. My tears were happy ones, though.

Jared’s sincerity and kindness continue to touch me to this day. Every time I see him at a convention, I get bone crushing hugs and kisses all over my head. He’s so sweet and encouraging, which I truly appreciate. Happy birthday, Jared! Thank you for being such a beautiful light for me and so many others. Briana Buckmaster’s Album Release Party – Live at Hotel Cafe

Last Monday, I had my socks completely rocked off when Briana Buckmaster graced the stage of the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles for the release party for her album Begin. And it – was – AMAZING!

I arrived right on time to the little club off of Sunset Blvd with plus one for the night, my awesome mom. Inside, the low lighting had the room nearly pitch black, which made it difficult to order a drink while my eyes adjusted. But soon I was recognizing familiar faces, both in online/fandom friends, and cast and crew members from Supernatural there to support Briana. It wasn’t long before the opening act took the stage – The Station Breaks.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to listen to Station Breaks, you should stop right now and pull up their album on Spotify or iTunes. (“Gone” is a personal fave of mine!) The band, made up of two members of Louden Swain (Rob Benedict, Billy Moran), Jason Manns, Rob Humphreys and Cooper Appelt, provided the perfect opening energy to the show. By a few songs in, we were all singing along and cheering as Billy played some sick guitar riffs, Rob Benedict busted out a bagel shaker, and Rob Humphreys wailed on the drums.

One of the best moments of the night was when they played “Hallelujah”. It’s a song a lot of us know and when the chorus came up Jason and Rob stopped their beautiful harmonies and just sat back, smiling, listening to the crowd sing as we sang it back at them. It had a little of that same energy you get at a Supernatural convention during the Saturday Night Special – the feeling of family and togetherness, even when surrounded by a hundred other people who are otherwise strangers.

And then, looking every bit the kick ass rock star she is, Briana took the stage wearing pleather and her million-watt smile. The screaming around me was deafening in the crowded, dark lounge. Joined by members of Station Breaks, she played songs from her new album, Begin. (Which you should also go grab on Spotify or iTunes. I mean it – go now.)

The truth is, there wasn’t a rotten song in the bunch, but I’m gonna talk about my favorites from her set. First of all, as great as ‘Gunpowder and Lead’ is on her album, Briana blew the roof off the place performing it in person! She pulled Jason up on stage with her to sing ‘Have a Little Faith In Me’, with beautiful piano accompaniment. She was also joined by Rob to sing ‘Wave’, which they sang to each other with huge smiles on their faces. But she really knocked me out with her gentle rendition of ‘How Will I Know’ – there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. With each song she brought her crazy, passionate, contagious energy that filled the room. It was like we were all up on that stage with her.

The journey of watching Briana perform at conventions during Saturday Night Special, to creating a kickstarter for the album, to now headlining her own show has been so great to watch – not only because it’s so heartening to watch her succeed in her dream, but because she does it while reminding the rest of us to never give up on our own. I was a mixture of proud and excited (and maybe a little weepy) seeing her take the stage. Even my mom, previously unexposed to any of the music performed at the show, danced her feet off with the rest of us!

I can’t wait to make the drive to Los Angeles the next time Briana performs, and you should make sure not to miss it! Do you have a favorite song from Briana’s new album? Tell us in the comments below!

Sharp Objects Recap: Episode 2 “Dirt”

0

Each week, I will recap the latest episode of Sharp Objects, which is currently airing on HBO. (Check out the recap of last week’s episode here.) The series’ second episode was the latest to air, and it was the first of three of this season’s eight episodes that were written or co-written by the novel’s author Gillian Flynn. The other two episodes that she has written will be the season’s final two.

This week’s episode was a much slower burn than the series premiere, which I think was a blessing. The main character this week was really the town of Wind Gap itself. We get to see how its inhabitants deal (or actually, do NOT deal) with the numerous tragedies that have visited the town. We learn more about the two murdered girls’ cases and how their investigations are going. And we see Camille’s past and present blend together with more shocking frequency.

So let’s talk about “Dirt.”

Obligatory warning: mucho spoilerage ahead, so consider yourselves warned!

Last week’s episode, “Vanish,” ended with the discovery of the body of Natalie Keene, a teenage girl who had been missing and whose case was the primary reason Camille had returned to her hometown. “Dirt” begins with Natalie’s funeral.

The entire town attends the funeral, and Camille uses the opportunity to take notes for her investigative write up – quite literally.  She sits next to her mother Adora and her friend Jackie (played by Elizabeth Perkins), with a notebook and pen. Jackie tells Camille that the Keenes usually keep to themselves, and Adora unnecessarily admonishes her for talking so loudly, instructing her to use her “indoor voice.”

As Natalie’s family walks down the aisle to the front of the viewing room, a flashback appears in front of Camille’s eyes. She is 15 years old and at her sister Marian’s funeral. Only Adora is in the viewing room in this memory. Camille walks up to her and lays her head on her mother’s lap for comfort. Adora pushes her away, walks up to the flower arrangements, and destroys them. The flashback ends.

Camille notices that Natalie’s brother, John, is understandably inconsolable, but she is intrigued by his girlfriend sitting next to him. “Who is the Jackie O?” she writes in her notebook, making a point to learn more about her. Adora sees Camille writing and tries to wrestle away the pen from Camille’s hand, humiliated at the thought that someone might see her taking notes. Camille leans over to get her purse, and her dress rips on the side under her arm, revealing numerous scars. She gets up and leaves quickly.

Camille makes her way to the local store to buy some sewing supplies to fix her dress, so she can attend the wake. At the store, she sees her sister, Amma, with her friends pouring some vodka into a Sprite bottle. Amma comes over to Camille and asks to borrow money to pay for the spiked soda. She warns her half-sister and her friends to be careful, because girls her age are going missing. “Not the cool ones,” quips Amma.

Camille drives from the store to the wake and parks her car. Still inside the car, Camille retrieves the pack of sewing needles she just purchased and grabs one. She rolls up the sleeve on one arm, and we can see part of a word carved into her skin long ago. “SCA” is all we see, until she leaves her car to go inside the Keene house. When she closes her car door, we see “SCARED” written over the door handle.

As she enters the house, Camille hears numerous whispers from the Wind Gap residents, all about or directed at her. “Is that really her?!” “…such a bitch…” But it’s difficult to tell if the whispers are real or imagined. She walks over to the table where the liquor is and begins to drink. She hears “Jackie O” – John’s girlfriend – whisper to another person that the Natalie that was described at her funeral by her mother is not the Natalie she knew. And an old friend of Camille’s mentions to her that John’s uncontrollable sobbing at his sister’s funeral is suspect, saying that his sorrow seemed “a bit too much.”

Camille wants to learn as much as she possibly can about Natalie, so she goes to the girl’s bedroom and looks around. The walls are adorned in bright pink, which seems to clash with the bug-print pillowcases and sports equipment lying around. She notices a mason jar containing a spider that Natalie had been keeping as a pet. She takes the jar outside and releases the spider. Natalie’s father sees her, and Camille walks over to him to offer her condolences.

After the wake, Camille drives through town and notices that there are no children playing anywhere. Yard after yard is adorned with empty swing sets and forgotten bicycles. Eventually, she sees some kids playing on a baseball field and decides to pull over to talk to them. One of the kids mentions to her that a local boy, James, saw a “woman in white” take Natalie and believes that she is the one who killed her. (There is local folklore about a “Woman In White” who snatches children in the middle of the night.) When Camille asks why James didn’t report this information to the cops, the boy replied, “He did.”

Camille goes to James’s house and sees him through the living room window. He is by himself watching cartoons, and when Camille asks if his parents are home, he holds up a revolver and replies, “Why? I know how to take care of myself.” Camille asks him about the woman in white that he saw, and James says that he did see Natalie walk toward the woman in the woods and believes that she is the one who kidnapped and killed Natalie. He also said that he told the police but they didn’t seem to take him seriously.

James’s mother is home after all and tells Camille to leave her son alone. She asks the mother about the woman-in-white story, and the mother says she’ll talk, but only for $50. Camille leaves.

Back in town, local police chief Vickery is repairing a stop sign, and Camille confronts him about James’s eyewitness account. Vickery seems dismissive and tells her that he is from a very poor part of town. Camille asks him if eyewitness testimony is dependent on the person’s socioeconomic status. Vickery retorts that James’s mother is a cancer patient (as well as a meth addict, he feels it necessary to point out) who wears white hospital gowns. So perhaps James, who has been known to tell tall tales in school, is referring to his mother when he speaks of a woman in white. Camille says that perhaps his story is true, that someone is wanting to make the “woman in white” story real by playing the part. Vickery says that is absurd and that only a man could have committed these crimes.

At the local bar, Camille runs into Detective Willis and asks him about the woman in white. He also dismisses the story, stating that a man had to have murdered the girls. He bases this on statistics and on the brute strength needed to remove both girls’ full set of teeth. When Camille asks him how he knows how much strength would be required to do that, he admits that he tried it himself on the butchered head of a large pig.

Back at her mother’s house, Camille calls and checks in with her boss Frank and provides him with the latest info she has gathered. She tells him about seeing Natalie’s room and how it didn’t look to her like it would have matched Natalie’s personality. Frank asks her if she got proper permission to see Natalie’s belongings from her parents, not because of legal issues, but because of ethics issues. Camille lies and says Natalie’s mother gave her a tour of the entire house.

Her interview of minor James earlier without a guardian present in the episode was also an ethics breach, and these actions might come back to haunt her in a future episode.

As she sends off her latest report via email to her boss, Camille hears a scream from downstairs. She rushes to the living room and sees Adora holding Amma, who is apparently suffering from some sort of fit. When Camille asks if she will be okay, Adora snidely remarks that she is tired of Camille’s drinking. She also mentions that she wanted to help Natalie, because she reminded her so much of Camille. While Amma is inexplicably suffering from some sort of medical issue (that is never explained) in her arms, Adora seizes the opportunity to hurt Camille.

The episode ends with a distressed Camille in her old bedroom, with the needle from earlier in her hand. She lifts up her shirt and begins to poke and prod her stomach with the sharp object.

I really enjoyed “Dirt” and its change of pace from the series premiere. To see how the entire town of Wind Gap brushes tragedy of all forms under the rug was frightening. In one of the episode’s first scenes, Detective Willis learns from the local barber that when the first victim, Ann, was found in a local creek last year, the townspeople removed all the rocks from the creek, carried them to another location, and smashed them to bits. The barber posited that they thought by getting rid of the things that bore witness to the crime, future tragedy would be prevented or avoided.

This kind of “magical thinking” (that Detective Willis called it) is evident throughout the entire episode: Amma’s stated belief that none of the “cool girls” should be concerned about the killer’s presence in town; Chief Vickery’s dismissal of a potential eyewitness account because it doesn’t fit his preconceived notions of who could be the killer; John’s grief over losing his sister being painted as overreaction or not genuine; and even a lack of explanation for Amma’s sudden fit in the final scenes all play out virtually unquestioned.

Be sure to return next week for a recap of Sharp Objects third episode, “Fix,” which will air on Sunday, July 22, at 9 p.m. EST!

SeaWorld has just provided an update on it’s newest attraction, Infinity Falls! Construction is coming to a close for the anticipated attraction, which hopes to open this summer.

Here’s more from SeaWorld:

The new attraction brings the thrill of white-water rafting into a new experience the family can enjoy together. Aboard the rides 8-passenger circular rafts, riders will embark on an adventure through a lush rainforest environment inspired by some of the world’s most incredible freshwater ecosystems. The new attraction will feature dynamic drops and turns, interactive water elements, and allow visitors to experience the feel of exhilarating rapids. The ride will also feature an innovative vertical lift designed to transport the rafts to the top of the ride’s 40-foot drop in just over five seconds.

The new attraction will be the centerpiece of a newly themed area designed to resemble the basecamp of explorers and scientists. After riding Infinity Falls, the entire family can explore the basecamp and take part in interactive experiences that combine play with education to create a positive impact on freshwater ecosystems, reinforcing “Park to Planet” in real time, a mission to help guests understand some of the challenges facing the planet and inspiring them to help.

SeaWorld is scheduled to announce the opening date for the attraction in the next few weeks – so stay tuned!

Richard Speight, Jr. to Direct Supernatural Season 14, Episode 2!

Richard Speight, Jr. will be returning to the director’s chair for Supernatural’s upcoming fourteenth season! Currently, the cast and crew are in the process of filming the second episode, the title of which has yet to be released to the public.

Jim Michaels, co-executive producer for Supernatural, shared a Tech Survey tweet on July 17, which revealed Richard’s name as the director for the second episode:

On Friday, July 13, Richard was absent from the festivities of Chicago’s Supernatural convention weekend, an odd occurrence for the popular MC and spokesperson for the conventions’ “Friday People.” Once it was revealed that he was in Vancouver and would fly to Chicago late Friday night to catch the convention’s events the following Saturday, fans began speculating whether this meant that Richard was in Vancouver to film and reprise his role as the Archangel Gabriel, who met his untimely death during the penultimate episode of Supernatural’s thirteenth season, “Exodus.”

However, during the Welcome Panel on Friday, Rob Benedict disclosed that Richard was in Vancouver for directing purposes, prepping for the filming schedule of the second episode. Jared Padalecki also revealed during the Chicago convention that Richard will be directing a total of two episodes for the show’s fourteenth season. According to IMDb, Richard is slated to direct the sixth episode as well, but we cannot officially confirm this as of yet.

While Gabriel may not be returning to the show, Richard as a director for Supernatural’s second episode is certainly a welcome addition.

Richard has directed several successful Supernatural episodes in the past, including “Just My Imagination” (11.8), “Stuck in the Middle (With You)” (12.12), “Twigs & Twine & Tasha Banes” (12.20), “War of the Worlds” (13.07), and “Unfinished Business” (13.20).

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wynonna Earp Season 3, Episode 1!

On Monday night, the SyFy channel aired a special sneak peek preview of the first episode for season 3 of its hit show Wynonna Earp. The season officially premiers on Friday night at 9 pm, and the episode- Blood Red and Going Down- will also be airing with bonus content.

The show returned in a way that was true to form for our whiskey drinking, sharp tongued heroine. The episode opened with Wynonna astride a mechanical bull, drink in hand clearly having a good time. It doesn’t last long, though because a few moments later, we see Wynonna being tossed out of the bar via a back door and she is then surrounded by revenants. Though she’s clearly had more than a few drinks, she is up and fighting off her attackers-one of whom was actually Dolls in disguise. He hands Wynonna Peacemaker and she’s off and running chasing down the revenants who are trying to escape. Waverly and Nicole are also on scene providing support on a nearby rooftop. Jeremy and Doc emerge a few moments later, teaming up to incapacitate another revenant who Wynonna quickly disposes of.

And while this is usually run of the mill work for the Earp heir, something new is about to enter into the town of Purgatory…via a party bus. Sheriff Nedley and one of his officers are staking out the town limits setting up a speed trap when the bus pulls up. When Nedley exits his vehicle, the bus stops and the doors open, with several people spilling out amidst a cloud of purple smoke. One of them approaches the sheriff asking if this is the Ghost River Triangle. A suspicious Nedley says it depends on who’s asking. One of the men from the bus says “your master”. The woman approaches Nedley and touches his cheek and his demeanor instantly changes and he welcomes the group into the town.

“Its about time we had some vampires up in here.”

Back at the Earp homestead Nicole and Waverly share a tender moment in their room that is interrupted by strange noises coming from outside in the barn. Doc and Wynonna have been training and sparring in the barn. This has become a bit of a regular occurrence for them in the 19 weeks since the demon Bulshar rose and they had to send their daughter Alice away, and things seem to be a bit rocky between the two. Nicole tells the group a few moments later that they have a case that requires all hands on deck.

Wynonna and Waveryly return to Pussy Willows- the bar from the night before- where Sheriff Nedley is already on scene. He greets the sisters outside and he tells them they shouldn’t be here, and that Nicole is already inside. He leaves and tells the girls he promises that “they didn’t do this.” It doesn’t take them long to notice something is off with the sheriff but head inside the bar. Inside, they are greeted by a grisly scene. Bodies and blood cover the floor. Nicole tells them that somehow they all died simultaneously and that the bodies were arranged in a pattern, and due to her researching Black Badge Division files, she believes the slayings were done by the Cult of Bulshar. While casing the scene, Nicoles sees a symbol carved into the back of one of the victims and becomes visibly shaken and leaves the scene with Waverly. Wynonna notices movement behind the bar, and she soon finds a man standing there. He slams a bloody hand down on to a poster on the wall and disappears. Meanwhile, Waverly and Nicole are in the bar’s restroom when the same vampire who approached Nedley at the start of the episode appears. She touches Waverly , effectively putting her under the same control she used on Nedley, and tells Waverly that she is needed as tribute. Nicole exits one of the stalls in the restroom, having also been glamoured by the vampire- Petra. Wynonna has returned to the bar, and we see what the strange figure had left the hand print on. It was a poster for ‘Michelle Gibson, Rodeo Queen.’ Taking one look at the poster, she tears it from the wall, yelling to Waverly that she has to leave on a “mother of an errand”.

Doc is back at Shorty’s, asleep on the bar. He starts awake, appearing to have been having a nightmare about being in Hell. Hearing strange noises coming from the bar’s basement, he descends the steps to find Jeremy. A few moments later, the room is engulfed in purple smoke. They climb the stairs back to the bar, to find that the vampires have taken over, killing the patrons. Disoriented by the haze in the room, Doc is captured and Jeremy is put under a glamour by one of the vampires.

The “errand” that Wynonna had to go on ends at the local jail- where her mother is. Wynonna confronts her mother about Bulshar and her connection to him. Her mother remains mostly silent throughout the exchange, but she tells her daughter that “the voice tells her things about him” and that Wynonna is going to get her sister killed. Things quickly escalate as her mother gets more and more agitated, and as she is escorted away she yells out that her daughters are off limits.

It seems the vampires brought Doc back to their bus, and have taken him prisoner with plans to turn the legendary gunslinger but he must prove he is in fact the Doc Holliday. He asks his captor how exactly he is supposed to accomplish that. She tells him “endure” and begins to torture him.

Back at the prison, Wynonna and Dolls have gotten their hands on her mother’s records- much of which have been redacted. During their conversation, we learn that Wynonna’s father had told her to tell Waverly that their mother up and left them when they were children, instead of telling her that she had been arrested. The two part ways, and as Dolls is returning to his vehicle, Petra appears.

Doc, still being held prisoner starts talking with the vampire who is holding him captive, and learns that the vampires have come to the Ghost River Triangle to observe when Bulshar returns. In talking more with the vampire, Doc realizes he knows her and her name is Countessa.

After leaving Dolls, Wynonna has returned to the homestead, when the mysterious purple fog returns, spilling out of the barn. Entering into the “sexy fog”, Wynonna wishes for a suprise Rihanna concert, but instead finds a vampire waiting for her. Moments later, Wynonna enters the house to rally the troops- presumably covered in vampire guts. Nicole, Waverly, and Jeremy all greet her, but Wynonna quickly notices something amiss in their behavior and the way they’re dressed, noting that it’s a bit formal for Taco Tuesday. Realizing that Wynonna hasn’t fallen prey to the vampire’s glamour, Nicole knocks her out cold. The trio discusses what to do with her, and because Petra has instructed them not to kill her, they decide that they will deliver Wynonna to the vampires…in a coffin. Wynonna is the guest of honor at a formal house party that the vamps are throwing. At the party, the humans that the vampires have glamoured are discussing turning or being eaten. Waverly and Nicole begin to talk about what will happen to them, and Waverly tells Nicole she doesn’t think she can watch her be eaten. Nicole agrees, saying she’s never been a victim, she’s a survivor and for a brief moment it seems that glamour may have been wavering. That is until one of the vampires begins his speech at the party. He tells the crowd the Ghost River Triangle has been wasted on the people living there, but that ‘he’-presumably Bulshar- is coming to save it and that they are here to watch.

In the basement of the house, Dolls – who managed to elude the vampires – has found Wynonna. He frees her from the coffin and presents her with some stakes courtesy of Black Badge Division. The two learn that if the vampire is killed, whoever they glamoured will return to their senses. Back at the party, the vampires have begun to split the guests into groups: the descendants of the old families of Purgatory will be offered as tribute to Bulshar, everyone else is “for them to eat.” Suddenly, Wynonna makes her grand entrance as the guest of honor, smashing through a window, telling the vampire “I’ll tell you what you can eat. A dick.”

Turning to Waverly, Wynonna asks her who her favorite vampire is, and Waverly rushes to Petra’s side. With a signal to Dolls, he shoots the vampire with a stake effectively breaking the glamour’s effect on Waverly, Nicole, and Nedley. No longer under Petra’s spell, Nicole slides Peacemaker to Wynonna and a fight breaks out with the group shooting and staking the vampires. During the fight, Nicole is briefly glamoured by aother vampire, before Waverly plunges a stake into the offending vampire, yelling “that’s my girlfriend you bloodsucking, bitch!”

Still stuck on the party bus, we see Doc trying to escape. “Greatest gunslinger in who ever lived will not get ate while tied to a stripper pole. Hopefully.” He finally manages to break free just as the vampire Countessa returns. She tells him he’s free because their plan has gone sideways, when she notices that Doc is bleeding. He affirms that he does know her and asks what they’ve done to her. She tells him “what I don’t want them to do to you” before leaving and telling him to stay put on the bus, no matter what happens. Doc climbs out of the bus through an emergency exit in the roof and chases the vampire through the snow. After a brief and heated exchange, Doc lets her go. It’s clear these two have a history that dates back to Doc’s time with Wyatt Earp.

The others are still inside the house, having taken care of the vampires. As one remaining vampire is about to bite Dolls, Doc rushes in and stakes it. There is still one more vampire left, and the group tries to interrogate him about Bulshar’s whereabouts. The vampire tells them that while Bulshar’s curse on the Earps was elegant, his wrath won’t be, and that he has returned to finish what he started. Rather than put the vampire down, she leaves him for Bulshar to deal with, with the warning that she is coming for him. And like she knew he would, the vampire returns to Bulshar, explaining how their plan failed. However, Bulshar does not kill him because it seems he has other plans for him, saying that he will be the one to show others the path.

Doc and Wynonna return to Shorty’s to share a drink at the bar. The two toast to another day, another victory, and to Alice. The episode closes with Wynonna taking Waverly back to the homestead, and Nicole has returned to Pussy Willows, where she is soon joined by Dolls. It’s clear she is still very shaken up about the slaughter that took place there. Dolls tells her it’s tough with cases where there are no survivors. She tells him that she thinks there was a survivor of the Cult of Bulshar once. And that it was her.

On their drive home, it seems Wynonna is finally about to tell Waverly what really happened to their mother when suddenly, the two get into an accident. We see the tuck flip upside down and someone pulling Waverly from the wreckage as she screams for them to save Wynonna, too.

After the roller coaster that was season 2, its no surprise that season 3 has hit the ground running, and its clear our heroes aren’t going to have much time to catch their breath.  They’re dealing with revenants, vampires and ancient demons and its only the first episode!

Be sure to tune in again Friday July 20th at 9 pm on the SyFy channel when the season officially premiers!
