Later this month, the first volume of the highly anticipated English print edition of the Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint novel will hit shelves. Ahead of its long-awaited release, Nerds & Beyond’s Otaku Stroll is here to share our thoughts after checking out an advanced reader copy, courtesy of Ize Press!
singNsong’s Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint originally began as a Korean web novel in 2018, and a webtoon adaptation then followed in 2020. Now, with anime and live-action adaptations on the way, English readers can finally dive into the source material that inspired one of the most popular webcomics of today!
Official summary:
“Kill each other within the time limit or die. It’s just another evening commute on the train, until the passengers are given an order they can’t disobey. Utter chaos ensues, but ordinary office worker Dokja Kim only feels an unsettling calm. He knows exactly how this will play out! The subway car, the passengers’ reactions, even the bizarre creature that suddenly appears to oversee this sadistic scenario … everything is straight out of his favorite story, an online novel so obscure he is its sole reader. And as the only one who knows where the plot is headed, Dokja must use his knowledge to survive the oncoming apocalypse!”
In our review, we take a look at the full press kit sent over to us by Ize Press, we discuss the series and if new readers should start with the manhwa or novel first, and we touch on a few things regarding translations for English audiences. Watch the video below.
Make sure to get your copy of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint when it releases on July 22! An audiobook counterpart will also be available as well.
Stay tuned for more news on the upcoming anime and live-action adaptations.
