YUNGBLUD’s show at The Anthem on Sunday, June 7, was a long time coming. After cancelling the rest of his tour, including his Washington, D.C. show last year, the Yungblud Army was so incredibly excited to finally see him this year, and the excitement was palpable.
Openers The Warning helped bring in an amazing energy to prepare for what was about to be the best show I’ve seen this year. The Warning, an all girl rock band from Monterrey, Mexico showed up and got the party started opening with their song “More”. As someone who had not heard their music previously, I immediately went home and added a bunch of their songs to my favorites playlist.
Yungblud came on around 9:00 pm, opening with the War Pigs intro bleeding into a 9 minute “Hello Heaven, Hello” as his first song, setting off confetti at the beginning. It looked so ethereal as the song went on. Yungblud threw his vest off about a minute into the song and started throwing cups of water into the audience, something I got to see him do at a festival back in 2022 and glad to see he’s still doing it now. It’s such a fun interactive part of his shows (and honestly makes for amazing photos).
The best part of the show (besides everything) was when he brought a young fan up from the audience, Caylee, and had her play his guitar during “fleabag”. The audience absolutely loved it, screaming with phones out recording video. She absolutely took over that stage, matching his energy the entire time and playing the guitar like she was part of the band. She told everyone at the end that she hopes they believe in themselves. It was an absolutely precious moment during an amazing show.
