‘Solo Leveling’ Wins Anime of the Year

Share

The people have spoken. Solo Leveling has taken the crown at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

Solo Leveling‘s first season went home with an inventory full of awards, taking home Best New Series, Best Ending Sequence, Best Action, Best Main Character, Best Score for Hiroyuki Sawano, and Best Voice Artist Performance for Aleks Le (English), Charles Emmanuel (Brazilian), and Masumi Mutsuda (Castilian Spanish).

Depending on who you ask, Solo Leveling pulled off an upset win over Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, who took home Best Drama, Best Background Art, and Best Supporting Character for Frieren’s beloved apprentice, Fern.

Unsurprisingly, Demon Slayer‘s fourth arc, the Hashira Training Arc, was among the winners, along with the wizarding world parody, MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES. The lack of JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2 among the winners is a notable absence, particularly considering the timing of voting and the manga’s controversial final arc.

“Fans form deep emotional connections to anime. These are not just series, films, or songs, but rather works of art that help define the identity of anime fans,” said Rahul Purini, President, Crunchyroll. “With an incredible 51 million votes this year, the 2025 Anime Awards are celebrating the creators in Japan who have captured the hearts of fans and are powering anime’s prominence in global pop culture.”
