Review: ‘Bebe Winans’ We Three Kings’ Brings Holiday Melodies to Lifetime

We Three Kings: A&E Lifetime

Bebe Winans’ We Three Kings combines family, heart, and sensational music to make a holiday film that shines.

This film is full of feeling and love from start to finish. It tells the story of Lincoln King (BeBe Winans), and his three daughters: Lydia (Lisa Berry), Abigail (Bethany Brown), and Gracie (Faith Wright). Their mother, his wife, passed away three years ago, and the girls haven’t all been home for Christmas together since. Lydia lives near her father and runs a candle shop, Abigail is a professional pianist in Chicago, and Gracie is a doctor. When Lincoln King falls and almost gets hit by a car, the girls reunite to help him during the holidays, from making his home wheelchair accessible to keeping his record shop running.

The biggest conflict that drove the sisters apart revolves around their mother’s missing necklace. None of them know who has it, leading to many fights and copious animosity. With the girls together for Christmas for the first time since their mother’s passing, all of this comes to a head while each of the girls goes on their own journey.

Gracie has an emotional enemies to lovers romance with Jacob (Hamza Fouad), the lawyer who almost hit Lincoln with his car. Abigail has a budding romance with Sean (Romeo Miller) and has to confront her music career. Lydia struggles with fertility issues that weigh heavily on her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Mike (Jaime M. Callica). These girls lost pieces of themselves when they lost each other, and the joy of seeing them reunite and find themselves again holds the perfect, heartfelt, holiday warmth. The performances from this cast put you right in the family with them, and the love on the screen is tangible. This film gives goosebumps.

Some scenes in particular are unbelievably strong, well-written, and well-portrayed. The most intense conflict scene among the sisters is so well crafted, and perfectly placed in the story at a point when you’re loving and rooting for all three of King sisters. It’s gripping and sensational, with cuts to those in their lives on the outside who can hear their argument, and an incredible performance from BeBe Winans.

All of these stories are woven together with gorgeous music. At the beginning of the film, BeBe Winans and Lisa Berry sing a rendition of Silent Night that is powerful enough to bring a tear to your eye. Somehow, everyone’s voices in this film blend together in perfect harmonies and tones. We should expect nothing less from BeBe Winans, but this cast truly does set a standard when it comes holiday films that integrate the songs we all know and love.
