Review: NSYNC’s New Single Takes Fans to a “Better Place”
After a headline-making reunion at the MTV VMAs earlier this month, NSYNC has come together again to release their first single in over 20 years.
And the wait has been well worth it.
“Better Place” was recorded for the soundtrack for the upcoming animated film Trolls Band Together, starring Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick, in which Timberlake’s character reveals his boy band past.
The song opens with a melodic whistle that immediately hooks fans and then transitions to verses that not only show off the band’s legendary harmonies but also allow each member a moment to shine.
Longtime listeners will not be disappointed; the song expertly captures what makes NSYNC shine, becoming a perfect blend of the late 90s/early 00s boy band sound while incorporating contemporary pop beats. It’s ideal for fans of Pharrell’s “Happy” or even Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling.”
When the catchy chorus says “I’m so excited/to see you excited,” it’s as if the band is talking directly to fans, knowing just how delighted they are by the long-awaited song.
Its upbeat, modern disco feel would make it the perfect summer song – if only it wasn’t arriving at the beginning of fall. No matter, though. While it would be just as at home blaring on a beach, fans will no doubt blast it while heading to the pumpkin patch or dancing through crunchy leaves. Because honestly, is there really a bad season to listen to NSYNC?
Unfortunately, there is no further news of a reunion beyond “Better Place.” However, if a tour is to be announced, Ticketmaster better start upgrading their servers now if they want to survive the onslaught of fans who have been patiently (or not-so-patiently!) waiting to see their favorite band rekindle their relationship, and this single is the ideal way to get fans eager for more.
