Today, during Netflix’s first ever DROP 01 event — a virtual showcase celebrating the best of the screening platform’s genre animation series — viewers were given a tease of the all-new anime series based on the popular Capcom game Devil May Cry, featuring a brief glimpse of its titular character, Dante.

Since the release of the first game in 2001, Devil May Cry has been lauded for its diverse cast of characters and exhilarating gameplay, garnering worldwide popularity with its subsequent titles featuring breathtaking graphics backed by state-of-the-art home video game technology.

The series logline is as follows:

“Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.”

Written by Alex Larsen and created by Adi Shankar, the Studio MIR production will consist of 8 episodes. Shankar serves as executive producer alongside Hideaki Itsuno (Capcom) and Seung Wook Lee (Studio MIR).

On the series, Shankar said, “I’m honored that Netflix and Capcom have entrusted me to shepherd the Devil May Cry franchise. Alex Larsen and I love these characters, we are part of the fandom, and vow to surpass the exceptionally high bar we set for ourselves.”
