Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for director Zack Snyder’s upcoming direct-to-streamer film release which is officially titled Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire.

The film stars Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Bae Doona, Ray Fisher, and Charlie Hunnam, with Anthony Hopkins lending his voice for a role. Additional cast members are Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Jena Malone, and Fra Fee.

Rebel Moon was originally developed by Snyder as a potential Star Wars feature over a decade ago — before Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012. In addition to directing, Snyder penned the script with 300′s Kurt Johnstad and Army of the Dead scribe Shay Hatten.

The synopsis reads:

“A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past named Kora to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.”

Netflix also used the trailer release to announce the movie will be considered a two-part event, with the sequel titled Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver. The Scargiver is set for release April 19, 2024.

Rebel Moon premieres on Netflix on December 22, 2023. Stay tuned with Nerds & Beyond for updates.
