Alright, mystery solvers. Grab your best pair of glasses and get ready to say jinkies, because HBO Max has set a release date for the Mindy Kaling-led series Velma! The streamer revealed that the Scooby-Doo prequel is set to premiere on Thursday, January 12. The first season will consist of 10 episodes that will release weekly in pairs.

Velma is an adult animated comedy that tells the origin story of its title character (voiced by Kaling), the “unsung and under-appreciated brains” of the Scooby gang. It will pull back the curtain on Velma’s past and also re-introduce viewers to other familiar characters from the crew, including Daphne (Constance Wu), Fred (Glenn Howerton), and Shaggy (Sam Richardson).

The series was created and executive produced by Kaling and showrunner Charlie Grandy. They executive produce alongside Sam Register and Howard Klein. Additional voice cast includes Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, Ken Leung, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Fortune Feimster, Yvonne Orji, Sarayu Blue, Nicole Byer, Ming-Na Wen, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Kulap Vilaysak, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Velma premieres its first two episodes on Thursday, January 12. To find out more on what to expect, check out our press conference coverage from NYCC. Keep up with the rest of our coverage here, and stay tuned for updates as they become available.
