‘Final Fantasy XVI’ Trailer Unveiled at The Game Awards
Naoki Yoshida took to the stage at last night’s Game Awards for the very first time to unveil a brand-new trailer for the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI.
The trailer is restricted for violence and gore, so you’ll have to head to YouTube directly to watch, but with the trailer came the long-awaited release date: June 22, 2023 with a PC version coming six months later.
Final Fantasy XVI will be exclusive to PlayStation 5 and has been in development since before the pandemic began in 2020, hitting many delays along the road. It will feature the new and improved battle sequences as seen in Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII Remake in the Game of Thrones-like world of Valisthea.
An epic dark fantasy world where the fate of the land is decided by the mighty Eikons and the Dominants who wield them. This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria” and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the dominant of the Phoenix. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.
Details about the game are still fairly under wraps, but we know it will feature crystals, as most in the franchise do, and two brothers of Noble heritage, Clive and Joshua Rosfield, two super-powerful humans called Dominants. The Dominants can control the deadly and equally as powerful Eikons, which are likely some of the various beasts being conjured in the trailer. The brothers adopt Jill Warwick in an effort to bring peace to the realm that is at war at the start of the game.
The game is currently available for preorder with Standard and Deluxe versions, with a special Collector’s version going on sale Monday, December 12 at 6 p.m. PT.
