Scott Cooper’s eerie new film The Pale Blue Eye is one month closer, and Netflix has released five new character posters. First debuted by Collider, the posters showcase Christian Bale, Harry Melling, Lucy Boynton, Gillian Anderson, and Robert Duvall set behind grim backgrounds that echo the tone of the film.

Set in the 1800s, The Pale Blue Eye follows Augustus Landor (Bale), a “world-weary” detective assigned to a grisly murder case at the West Point military academy. However, with the other cadets’ code of silence, Augustus enlists the help of a young cadet who would later become Edgar Allan Poe (Melling).

Additional cast includes Timothy Spall, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney, Hadley Robinson, Gideon Glick, Fred Hechinger, Matt Helm, Steven Maier, Charlie Tahan, Joey Brooks, and Brennan Cook.

The film is adapted from the Louis Bayard novel of the same name. The screenplay was written by Cooper who also directed and produced. Bale and Cross Creek Pictures’ John Lesher and Tyler Thompson produced, with Dylan Weathered and Tracey Landon as executive producers. It marks the third collaboration between Cooper and Bale following Out of the Furnace and Hostiles.

The Pale Blue Eye will have a limited theater release on December 23 and will premiere on Netflix on January 6. Check out the character posters below.
