‘Shadow and Bone’ Stars to Attend New York Comic Con

No mourners, no funerals.

But perhaps celebrations are in order, because New York Comic Con’s latest guest additions include none other than Shadow and Bone stars Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, and Kit Young. The trio is known for their portrayals of Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, and Jesper Fahey, respectively, in the Netflix series.

Based on author Leigh Bardugo’s (who will also be in attendance at the convention!) Grishaverse novels, Shadow and Bone takes place in a war-torn world where lowly soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just unleashed an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha. But as she struggles to hone her power, she finds that allies and enemies can be one and the same and that nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. There are dangerous forces at play, including a crew of charismatic criminals, and it will take more than magic to survive.

Although Carter, Suman, and Young’s characters technically aren’t introduced in the original Shadow and Bone trilogy — they instead make their entrance later in the Grishaverse timeline in the Six of Crows duology — the show adapted the story differently to introduce the Crows earlier and intertwine their story with Alina’s.

Shadow and Bone also stars Jessie Mei Li, Ben Barnes, Archie Renaux, Sujaya Dasgupta, Danielle Galligan, Daisy Head, Calahan Skogman, and more.

Production on the second season of Shadow and Bone recently wrapped, though a premiere date has not yet been revealed. As the story continues to expand further into the novels, newcomers in season 2 will include Patrick Gibson as Nikolai Lantsov, Lewis Tan as Tolya Yul-Bataar, Anna Leong Brophy as Tamar Kir-Bataar, and Jack Wolfe as Wylan Hendriks. In the meantime, season 1 of Shadow and Bone is now streaming on Netflix.

Autographs and photo ops (including a Crows team-up photo) with Carter, Suman, and Young, who will be in attendance at the convention Friday to Sunday, are now available.

Star Wars and Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac was announced as New York Comic Con’s headlining star yesterday. Other guests include Freddie Prinze Jr., Felicia Day, James and Oliver Phelps, R.L. Stine, and more

New York Comic Con will take place October 6-9 at the Javits Center in New York City. Tickets are now on sale to the general public (and make sure that you’ve completed the Fan Verification process in order to purchase tickets). Stay tuned for our continued coverage at the event!
