‘Superstore’s Lauren Ash Joins ‘Not Dead Yet’ as Series Regular
Deadline has revealed that Lauren Ash is the latest addition to the upcoming series Not Dead Yet. She will star as a series regular opposite Gina Rodriguez. Ash is well-known for starring as Dina in NBC’s Superstore, which aired its series finale last year. She has also lent her voice to Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power as Scorpia and Chicago Party Aunt as Diane.
Based on Confessions of a Forty-Something F**ck Up by Alexandra Potter, Not Dead Yet follows Nell Serrano (Rodriguez), a former journalist who aims to “restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago.” After breaking off her engagement, Nell takes the first step to jumping back into her career — by writing obituaries.
Ash will play a new character named Lexi, “the daughter of a wealthy newspaper owner and recently appointed editor.” Raised in a life of privilege, she is out of touch with the “normal” world. She is described as someone who presents confidence but also wants to win her father’s approval. As such, Lexi must ensure the newspaper doesn’t fail.
Additional cast includes Hannah Simone, Joshua Banday, Angela Gibbs, and Rick Glassman. The series is written and executive produced by Casey Johnson and David Windsor. Rodriguez, Mary Viola, Corey Marsh, and McG of Wonderland Sound and Vision serve as executive producers. Not Dead Yet hails from 20th Television as part of Disney TV Studios. It is set to debut in midseason.
