Netflix Orders Sequel & Spin-Off For ‘The Gray Man’

Just days after its release onto the streamer, Netflix has ordered a sequel and a spin-off of its Russo Brothers-led project based on the Mark Greaney book, The Gray Man.

Ryan Gosling will return as The Gray Man/Sierra Six along with the Russos and Stephen McFeely, who co-wrote the first installment alongside Christopher Markus.

The Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, shared their enthusiasm about continuing The Gray Man‘s universe in a statement:

“The audience reaction to The Gray Man has been nothing short of phenomenal. We are so appreciative of the enthusiasm that fans across the world have had for this film. With so many amazing characters in the movie, we had always intended for The Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe, and we are thrilled that Netflix is announcing a sequel with Ryan, as well as a second script that we’re excited to talk about soon.”

The plans or plot for the spin-off haven’t been revealed yet, but we know we’re not alone in hoping that Chris Evans’ reprehensible Lloyd Hansen will be getting the origin story we all deserve. The script will be penned by Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and will be rated “a hard R” and be “a little more edgy and experimental” according to Joe Russo in an interview with Deadline.

The Gray Man stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, Dhanush, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, Regé-Jean Page, Eme Ikwuakor, Scott Haze, and Julia Butters. Only Gosling is confirmed to return to the sequel at this time, although the film left room for many others to return.
