Disney+ Releases Trailer, Key Art, and Stills for ‘Hollywood Stargirl’
Disney+ has released the trailer, key art, and an array of still images for Hollywood Stargirl, which will debut on the streaming service on June 3.
The trailer, which you can check out below, features the titular character as she moves to California, where she meets one-hit-wonder Roxanne Martel, played by Uma Thurman.
Hollywood Stargirl is a sequel to the 2020 Disney+ film Stargirl. The first movie was a sweet coming-of-age story about free spirit Stargirl Caraway, played by musician Grace VanderWaal, a silver-voiced teenager whose simple acts of kindness work magic in the lives of others.
Disney’s official synopsis says:
“The sequel follows Stargirl’s journey out of Mica, Arizona and into a bigger world of music, dreams, and possibilities. When her mother Ana, played by Judy Greer (Two and a Half Men, Arrested Development), is hired as the costume designer on a movie, they relocate to L.A., where Stargirl quickly becomes involved with an eclectic assortment of characters. They include aspiring filmmaking brothers Evan (Elijah Richardson, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, New Amsterdam), and Terrell (Tyrel Jackson Williams, Brockmire, Lab Rats); Mr. Mitchell (Judd Hirsch, The Goldbergs, Big Mouth), one of Stargirl’s neighbors; and Roxanne Martel (Uma Thurman, Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction), a musician Stargirl admires and encounters on her journey.”
Returning as Stargirl, VanderWaal performs the original song, “Figure It Out,” which she wrote for the film. Julia Hart returns to direct. Hart and Jordan Horowitz wrote the original script, based on the original character from Jerry Spinelli’s best-selling book Stargirl. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein (The Maze Runner trilogy), Lee Stollman (All Together Now), and Jordan Horowitz (La La Land) are the producers, with Kristin Hahn, Nathan Kelly, and Jerry Spinelli serving as executive producers.
In addition to the trailer, Disney+ dropped several stills from the upcoming movie, which you can see right here:
