‘Spider-Man’ Director Jon Watts Exits Marvel Studios’ ‘Fantastic Four’

As first reported by Deadline, director Jon Watts has withdrawn as the director of Fantastic Four, the upcoming reboot of the franchise from Marvel Studios. Watts’ exit is confirmed by both Marvel Studios and the director, who both insist his exit is amicable.

The decision comes from Watts’ desire to take a break from the superhero genre following the completion of the first trilogy featuring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man/Peter Parker. With Sony Pictures and the team behind their Spider-Man movies planning on a second trilogy for this version of the web-slinger, it is now unknown if Watts will return for those films as well, though there have been no formal announcements about the future trilogy.
