Interview: Director Michelle MacLaren Talks Genre-Bending AppleTV+ Series ‘Shining Girls’ [EXCLUSIVE]

Based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Beukes, Shining Girls stars Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Kirby Mazrachi and Wagner Moura (Narcos) as Dan Velazquez. Phillipa Soo (Hamilton), Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy), and Jamie Bell (Snowpiercer) round out the ensemble cast. Moss also serves as executive producer and director of some episodes on the eight-episode series which premieres exclusively on AppleTV+ this Friday, April 29.

Michelle MacLaren, who is known for working on massive series such as Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead directs the first two episodes of the series. One of our co-directors Kaity had a chance to speak with director MacLaren about the draw of working on Shining Girls, underlying themes and metaphors in the series, and more!
