Ariana DeBose Wins Academy Award for ‘West Side Story’

Ariana DeBose of West Side Story has won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress! The actress has been considered the frontrunner for the category all awards season long, taking home the majority of the awards she was nominated for. The other nominees in the category were Kirsten Dunst, Jessie Buckley, Aunjanue Ellis, and Judi Dench.

Rita Moreno also took home the Oscar for the same role in the original film. DeBose is the first out queer woman of color to win an acting Oscar, marking a milestone achievement.
