‘Wednesday’: Christina Ricci to Return to Addams Family Universe in Upcoming Netflix Series
The news Addams Family fans have been waiting for since Tim Burton’s Wednesday series was announced is finally here – Christina Ricci has joined the cast for the upcoming series starring Jenna Ortega.
While Ricci’s exact role is being kept in the dark for now, Deadline has confirmed that she will have a recurring starring role in the series and will be an entirely new character — not an older version of Wednesday. Ricci is, of course, beloved for her performance as Wednesday in the Barry Sonenfeld-directed 1990s The Addams Family feature films.
The series is a coming-of-age comedy, written by Al Gough and Miles Millar and directed by Burton, that will follow Wednesday Addams during her years at Nevermore Academy. It’s described as a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery – which of course is only fitting with a director such as Burton.
In addition to Ortega, Ricci stars alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones as matriarch Morticia Addams and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams.
Netflix has yet to unveil a specific release date for the series, although it was previously confirmed that Wednesday will hit the streamer sometime in 2022.
