At the Golden Globes this evening, Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose of West Side Story took home two coveted statues! Zegler won Best Actress — Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy while DeBose was honored in the Best Supporting Actress — Motion Picture category. It is the first Golden Globes nomination and first win for both. West Side Story was also awarded the coveted Best Picture — Musical or Comedy award.

Zegler and DeBose have been frontrunners throughout awards season for their portrayal of Maria and Anita, respectively, in West Side Story. Zegler previously took home the National Board of Review Award for Best Actress, while DeBose has won numerous Supporting Actress awards and is considered a lock for an Oscar nomination in the category.

West Side Story itself has been a heavy favorite at most awards shows this season, particularly for its performances and for Steven Spielberg’s direction. You can find our review and other coverage of the film here!
