‘Morbius’ Release Pushed To April
It’s not an early April Fool’s joke: Sony Pictures has delayed the Morbius release an additional three months.
The Marvel feature film starring Jared Leto (House of Gucci) will release on April 1, 2022 rather than January 28, 2022. The movie will now release for IMAX and premium large formats, and well after Spider-Man: No Way Home has made its record-breaking theatrical run.
Morbius follows the origin story of Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist with a rare blood disease who develops a cure. Unfortunately, cures come at a cost sometimes, and in Morbius’ case, the consequence is becoming a blood-thirsty half-vampire. Morbius will add to the list of anti-heroes joining Sony’s Shared Spider-Man Universe alongside Venom.
Jared Leto will star as Morbius alongside Jared Harris, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. This movie will add to the ever-growing list of Spider-Man villains currently on the big screen rotation and will feature at least a cameo from Michael Keaton’s portrayal of Adrien Toomes/The Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The official synopsis for Morbius follows:
“One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.“
