‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Update: The Roost, Kapp’n, Gyroids, Paid DLC & More!

An exciting new update for the hit Nintendo Switch game Animal Crossing: New Horizons is on the way, and it’s jam-packed with many features that players have been hoping to see since the game first launched in March of 2020.

Island living just became a whole lot more exciting!

Content that will be found in this free update includes:

  • The Roost cafĆ©
  • Kapp’n’s boat tours
  • Harv’s island expansion (featuring new and familiar merchants)
  • Group stretching at the plaza
  • Island ordinances
  • New home exterior options
  • Home storage capacity increased to 5,000
  • DIY recipes for cooking
  • Pro decorating license (includes lighting, ceiling dĆ©cor, and accent walls)
  • Maximum number of bridges and inclines increased to 10 each
  • Nine new types of fences (including fence customization options)
  • Pro camera app with advanced photo capture options
  • Item patterns can be used for clothing, flooring, and wallpaper
  • 11 new hairstyles
  • 11 new reactions
  • Island Life 101 Nook Phone app
  • Additional Nook Miles furniture options
  • Storage shed
  • ATM
  • 12 new songs from K.K. Slider
  • Music boxes
  • Gyroids (including customization options)
  • New furniture at Nook’s Cranny
  • Permanent cliff ladders
  • Navigation for tight spaces inside of rooms
  • Residents may invite you over or come to your house

Those that spent countless days and Nook Miles Tickets hunting down New Horizons residents for their island, like the elusive Raymond and Audie, will be pleased to learn that Series 5 of the Animal Crossing amiibo cards is finally on its way! The set will consist of 48 cards, including characters not previously seen on amiibo cards in the past and entirely new characters in general!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has also begun to venture into the realm of paid DLC, offering a new expansion called Happy Home Paradise, which will task players with visiting an archipelago to design dream vacation homes for characters. Functionality from this content will also carry over to your home island. Happy Home Paradise will launch on November 5 for $24.99 USD, and pre-orders will begin on October 29. This will additionally be available as a part of a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.

Today’s announcement is bittersweet, as it marks the last major free content update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which will roll out alongside Happy Home Paradise on November 5.
