Today at New York Comic Con, Paramount Plus delivered a trailer for season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery. The trailer is the first new look at the upcoming season since First Contact Day in April, when they dropped a minute-long teaser.

The eagerly anticipated NYCC panel featured cast members Sonequa Martin-Green (Captain Michael Burnham), Mary Wiseman (Sylvia Tilly), Anthony Rapp (Paul Stamets), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), Blu del Barrio (Adira), David Ajala (Cleveland “Book” Booker), and showrunner Michelle Paradise.

All the panelists spoke about their character arcs and the overall feeling of season 4. Cruz said, “the theme of Season 4 is uncertainty, and how we come together to deal with it and walk through uncertainty and lean on each other.”

The NYCC panel was streamed on findthemetaverse and will be available for free on NYCC’s YouTube channel after the event.

In season 4, according to the official synopsis, “The crew of the USS Discovery face a threat unlike any they’ve ever encountered. With Federation and non-Federation worlds alike feeling the impact, they must confront the unknown, and work together to ensure a hopeful future for all.”

In true Trek style, season 4 looks set to boldly go where no Trek has gone before. Following her promotion at the end of season 3, Burnham will be in a stylish new Command Red uniform. This makes Martin-Green the first Black woman captain to appear in a live-action Star Trek show.

Captain Burnham’s first mission in the chair is going to be a big one. The trailer mentions a “gravitational anomaly” traveling through the galaxy and leaving devastation in its wake. It seems unstoppable at five light years in diameter, destroying planets indiscriminately. Will Discovery successfully enter the anomaly and save not just the Federation, but other worlds too?

Ominously, in the trailer, the Federation president confronts Burnham with the words, “Leadership is about balance. Your acts of bravery are huge swings of the pendulum. But there is a very fine line between a pendulum and a wrecking ball.”

Star Trek: Discovery is available on Paramount Plus in the US, Crave in Canada, and Netflix in 190 other countries.

Watch the new trailer below and get ready for the season to begin on November 18, 2021.
