Be careful who you let in when a stranger comes knocking at your front door … unless it’s a delivery person dropping off the new 4K release of the 2014 psychological thriller The Guest.

UK DVD, Blu-ray, and On Demand distributor Second Sight Films has announced that it will be releasing a new 4K HDR master of The Guest, and it sounds like it will be arriving in time for Halloween this year.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett (the duo behind V/H/S and You’re Next), The Guest stars Dan Stevens (Legion, Downton Abbey) as a young soldier who arrives on the doorstep of the Peterson family, claiming to be a good friend of their beloved son who died in action. The Petersons welcome David into their home and into their lives, but when people start mysteriously dying in town, mayhem ensues as their teenage daughter starts wondering if David is responsible.

The film also stars Maika Monroe (It Follows), Sheila Kelley (The Good Doctor), Leland Orser (I Am the Night), and Lance Reddick (Bosch).

The Guest is a must-see for fans of Stevens, as it’s arguably one of his best, most compelling acting roles to date. Meanwhile, Monroe plays an excellent opposite to Stevens’ intense, chilling performance. The soundtrack, cinematography, and script are all equally fantastic, making this film a truly underrated masterpiece.

As per Barrett, this new 4K HDR master of the film was supervised by Wingard and is a “nice improvement over the previous release.”
