According to Deadline, SundanceTV is launching a new true crime franchise True Crime Story, kicking off with two new documentary series: It Couldn’t Happen Here and Indefensible. The franchise will focus on telling an array of true crime stories from a multitude of perspectives.

It Couldn’t Happen Here will be hosted by Hilarie Burton Morgan (One Tree Hill, The Walking Dead). The series, which will consist of six 1-hour episodes, will see Burton Morgan, a long-time advocate for small towns, travel to areas and focus on “small-town American crime stories that demonstrate how crime impacts these tight-knit communities in unique and surprising ways.”

It Couldn’t Happen Here is produced by Bungalow Media + Entertainment. Executive producers include Robert Friedman, Liz Yale Marsh, and Mike Powers from Bungalow Media + Entertainment as well as Hilarie Burton Morgan for Mischief Farm, Liz DeCesare and Meg Mortimer for Authentic Management Productions, and Po Kutchins.The series is set to debut on September 9.

Conversely, Indefensible will be hosted by comedian and field producer Jena Friedman (The Daily Show, The Late Show with David Letterman) and focus on “cases where the outcome is shaped by more than what initially meets the eye,” bringing a unique take to the genre by examining “the why and how of the crimes as well as the sometimes dysfunctional criminal justice system.” Produced by Left/Right with executive producers Jena Friedman, Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver, Anneka Jones, and Eve Rodrick, this series is set to launch on SundanceTV and AMC+ on October 14.
