Lionsgate and Buzzfeed Studios have announced that Keiynan Lonsdale and Dylan Sprouse will star in the upcoming romantic comedy My Fake Boyfriend. Sarah Hyland will star alongside the duo.
The movie will primarily focus on Lonsdale’s character. He plays “a young man in a tricky situation.” He follows advice from his “unconventional best friend” (Sprouse) and finds a fake boyfriend via social media to keep his ex out of his life. Of course, it eventually backfires. Soon, he meets the real love of his life. However, breaking up with his fake boyfriend won’t be as easy as he might think.
Luke Albright, Joe Wanjai Ross, and Greg Boaldin will pen the screenplay. Rose Troche (The L Word, Shameless) will direct. Jason Moring, Michael Philip, and Buzzfeed’s head of studio Richard Alan Reid will produce.
My Fake Boyfriend begins production this month. Lionsgate and Buzzfeed are aiming to release in June 2022 for Pride month. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
