Edward Bluemel, Lydia Rose Bewley, and Yolanda Kettle Join Cast of ‘Persuasion’
The new Netflix and MRC adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion is underway in the UK, and there’s brand new casting information. Joining the already stellar line up are Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve, A Discovery of Witches), Lydia Rose Bewley (The Inbetweeners), and Yolanda Kettle (Marcella).
Previously announced cast includes Dakota Johnson who will portray Anne Elliot and Henry Golding as Mr. Elliot. Cosomo Jarvis, Suki Waterhouse, Richard E. Grant, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Ben Bailey Smith, Izuka Hoyle, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Nia Towle have also been announced.
With modern sensibilities and a forward thinking view of the world, Anne Elliot takes pride in her intellect and patience. Anne lives with her snobbish family on the brink of bankruptcy. Anne is faced with a difficult choice when the suitor she denied, Captain Frederick Wentworth, steps back into her life to go toe to toe for Anne’s hand against Golding’s character who is the classic Austen foil. In the novel, Mr. Elliot is heir to Kellynch Hall and is on the search for a new bride following the death of his late wife, but Anne questions the smooth talking Elliot’s motives. We’re unsure how this modern reimagining will address the character, but we can’t wait to find out.
Persuasion is written by Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow. Stay tuned for more details on the film as they become available.
