NBC is reviving their musical holiday tradition this year with a presentation of Annie preformed live for broadcast.
Annie has seen three Broadway runs, two major motion pictures and a variety of TV movies and spinoffs, even winning seven Tony awards including Best Musical. The story is a heartwarming tale of an optimistic orphan who is taken in by a rich eccentric much to the chagrin of the woman who runs the orphanage. Already a family favorite, it will be interesting to see how NBC’s live television broadcast adapts the show to fit their needs.
Neil Meron and Bob Greenblatt, who oversaw multiple other live musical presentations on NBC, are on board to produce this live broadcast; which with be NBC’s sixth such event. Lear deBessonet is set to direct the performance with Alex Rudzinski as the TV director and executive producer. The rest of the announced production team features Tony winner Sergio Trujillo choreographing, Paul Tazewell designing costumes, Jason Sherwood doing scenic design and Stephen Oremus overseeing music.
There is no news yet on casting or an air date, but as a beloved, multiple Tony Awarded musical, Annie Live! is sure to be worth a watch.
