Kiefer Sutherland to Star in Untitled Espionage Drama for Paramount+

Today, ViacomCBS’s streaming service Paramount+ announced a series order for an original and yet-to-be-titled espionage drama starring 24 and Designated Survivor‘s Kiefer Sutherland.
Sutherland will executive produce alongside writer-directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (This Is Us), Charlie Gogolak (The Sinner), and Suzan Bymel (Designated Survivor). The eight-episode season produced by CBS Studios will stream exclusively on Paramount+.
In a press release, Sutherland said, “I’ve been an admirer of John Requa and Glenn Ficarra’s unique body of work for some time, and I’m thrilled to be working on this exciting new project with them and Paramount+. Reuniting with David Nevins makes it all the more special. I can’t wait to see you all with this show in 2022.”
While details are still forthcoming, we do know that Sutherland will portray James Weir, a private espionage operative trying to navigate his way in a world at odds with misinformation, behavioral manipulation, the surveillance state, and the interests that control these extraordinary powers. The very preservation of democracy is at stake.
Sutherland received a Golden Globe Award, an Emmy Award, and two SAG Awards for his wildly popular role as CTU agent Jack Bauer in 24. In addition to his portrayal of President Tom Kirkman in Designated Survivor, his other notable credits include Melancholia, Dark City, A Few Good Men, Flatliners, Young Guns, Young Guns II, The Lost Boys, and Stand by Me.
